  • 1. Notes Migration - non-personal distribution lists
Hi, Can anyone tell me the best approach to migrating Domino distribution lists to Exchange 2003? So far as the Notes Connector is concerned, distribution lists on either side would simply be shown as a mail contact; mail to that list is then sent to the remote server, whose job it would be to expand the list and mail as appropriate. I think it'd be best to have move the distribution lists over to Exchange once DirSync is achieved and before I start any mail migration.. Then the Migration Wizard should keep the groups updated dynamically during the user migration. I hope. Does that sound like the right approach? If so I'm wondering what the best way to create these mail enabled distribution groups in AD would be. Is there some way to export a Domino group membership? then i could modify the names to match the mail-enabled contacts of a dirsync and LDIFDE the group into life perhaps.. Thanks for any suggestions. Darren
  • 2. IMC Service Stops
Running Exchange 5.5 Enterprise on windows 2000. Every so often our internet mail connector stops unexpectantly. Error 7031 (no help there). I have narrowed it down to certain messages in the out bound queue. Removing these messages allows normal operations. Adding these messages back into the queue and restarting the service crashes the the service. So, I know that these messages are causing the problem. What can I do about it? I running service pack 4. I have openned the messages in notepad to see if I can tell where they are coming from, but I can't seem to figure out where they are coming from. It must be some malformed message, but I would think there would be a patch for this. I have set the service to restart if it stops but sometimes it will hang in a starting state. Which then requires a reboot. Any ideas?

SMTP Relay Setup - Spam Filtering

Postby Matthew Loraditch » Sun, 20 Nov 2005 04:55:41 GMT

Does anyone know of any good tutorials on setting up a smtp server in the
following situation. I think i have my setup right and i want to see what i
may have done wrong
I have one server that i use for inbound mail filtering for spam (WEBSERVER)
and av and then my exchange server. (EXCHANGE)
My internet mx says send all email to WEBSERVER.MYDOM.COM. This server is
AFAIK successfully receiving email sent from outside. WEBSERVER filters the
email and then sends to EXCHANGE.MYDOM.COM.
WEBSERVER has my domain setup as a remote domain and set to forward using
smarthost, the ip of EXCHANGE is entered in brackets in the box. I also have
the allow incoming email to be relayed to this domain box checked. On
EXCHANGE I have the IP of WEBSERVER in the allow relay settings. When
WEBSERVER tries to send email to EXCHANGE I do see a connected session in
the current sessions view, that session will last as long as my timeout
settings allow (10 minutes). After which the connection is dropped and i get
and Event ID 4006 on WEBSERVER: Message delivery to the host '10.x.x.x'
failed while delivering to the remote domain 'MYDOM.COM' for the following
reason: The connection was dropped by the remote host.
What have i done wrong? what do i need to fix?
Thanks

Bob try to find a post by steve manatt on 11/7/05 he found the solution it
appears that there is something to do with sp2 for exchange, suffice it to
say if you add the ip of your smtp relay server to its own allow relay list
email will start flowing again!

1.anti spam filter for simply 2003 smtp relay ?

Hi,

Im looking for a free anti spam filter I can install on my 2003 smtp mail
relay. Does not have to be anything sophisticated, just need the ability to
reject domain names for example (at its most basic):

*@fakedomain.com

Would prefer to have anti spam working on relay machine (in DMZ) as opposed
to back end exchange server on LAN.

Too much many examples on the net, just looking for a recommendation.

Thanks for any advice

2.secure smtp after setup of 3rd party spam filtering

we've been mail bombed, relayed, heavly spammed, etc,
etc. our ISP has a spam solution that we just started
using. they changed our mail records to first point to a
third party spam filter company (like clearmx.com). that
gave me the ability to only allow connections from a
range of their servers, thus ending all the useless
connections from all over the world. well, even though i
made those changes, i still have hundreds of connections
from mail.ru and all those spam sites. the anti-spam
solution seems to be doing its job, but i still see many
connections that are not on the list of IPs i assigned
rights to connect. how do i get rid of these connections?

thanks

4.Third party spam filtering setup: SSL and other setup questions

Our administrator left a couple of months ago and I have inherited
responsibility for all adiminstration duties. We're a small company, so
I'm it for everything. I have had some training on Windows Server 2003, but
everything was set up before I got here and now I have my first change.

We just moved to a third party provider (MXLogic) for our email and spam
filtering.
I'm trying to set up the synchronization so that our users will be
 automatically downloaded to MXLogic.

Here are the questions MXLogic's synchronization setup is asking me and what
I know about each:

Question: Server Hostname
All I know is we use mail.highwayequipment.com to access our mail remotely.
I see we have 66.43.207.188 as our inbound and outbound servers in our
MXLogic setup. None of these seem to work. I don know where else to look
for this or who can tell me what I needr even what to ask for.

Question 2: Enable SSL (checkbox)
I don really know what this means beyond ecure Socket Layeror how to
find out if I should check this box or not.

Question 3: Search Bind DN
I log into the server that Exchange runs on as dministratorMy
understanding is this is the logon I should use. It wants the distinguished
name so I entered:
	cs=Administrator,cs=Users,dc=highwayequipment,dc=com

Question 4: Search Bind Password
I enterd the password for Administrator

Question 5: Search Base DN
I put cs=Users,dc=highwayequipment,dc=com

Question 2 is the one I need the most help with...how can I tell if we are
using SSL here?

Thanks,

Greg
