Hello, Flash Pro 2004 - Windows I am developing a Projector (.exe). I have a need to link to external png files which will be in a folder on the CD. I know this can be done with jpegs using LoadMovie(), but does not work for png's. Is there a way to do this? thanks.jim
  • 2. flash loader no access to loaded controls
ater loading a swf in the loader the comboBox and Calendar control are non accessable? how do I solve this.
  • 3. Warning message
I am working on a Flash Form Application and am setting the global styles of Label (or any other component) using the technique: if (_global.styles.Label == undefined) { _global.styles.Label = new mx.styles.CSSStyleDeclaration(); _global.styles.Label.setStyle('color', 0xFFFFFF); } Running it gives a warning (yes/no option): A script in this movie is causing Macromedia Flash Player 7 to run slowly. If it continues to run, your computer may become unresponsive. Do you want to abort the script? Now, this obviously is pretty irritating for the user. Any solution to this or any work-around??
  • 4. Class linkage causes problems
Hi, I have a very simple scenario and can't get it to work properly. On stage I have two objects. The first object is a movieclip called "circle1", instance of "circle_mc" which is just an ordinary circle. The second object is a window called circle_window. So far there is no problem. When I test the movie I can freely move the window around. I am running into problems as soon as I link a class ( Circle ) to the circle1 object. The class I am linking is: class Circle { public function Circle( g:MovieClip ) { } } Nothing fancy at all. It is stored in Circle.as I am using "Export for ActionScript" and "Export in first frame" to link Circle to circle_mc. When I test the movie now I can drag the circle_window only once and as soon as I stop dragging it and release the mouse button the flash player freezes and displays the message "A script in this movie is causing Flash Player to run slowly..." Unchecking "Export in first frame" gave me the same result. I just can't explain why this is happing. Any ideas on how to solve this strange problem will be greatly appreciated.

Where I work part-time we use Eclipse with FDT. Eclipse is free, FDT is
not... You might try ASDT instead, I think it is free, though I don't
believe it's as feature rich as FDT... I will say FDT needs work though,
it's good but it's not great by any stretch. There's also SEPY which is
free, but not nearly as popular as Eclipse with FDT or ASDT.

Personally, I think the Flash IDE is pretty good... it colors code better
than any of the external editors - they are all quite poor in that regard.
But the Flash IDE severely lacks a feature all of the external editors have,
and that is listing your class methods somewhere where you can click and
jump to them... Flash doesn't have this at all and it is totally {*filter*}-
_all_ external editors have this, Director has this... Flash needs this, and
it's my major complaint about it.

So, in short - nothing is perfect. They are all deficient in pretty major
areas...

I use FlashDevelop, from http://www.**--****.com/ . It has quite good syntax
highlighting, code hints and a method browser in a nice clean IDE. It also has
a syntax checker which works with MTASC, but I never tried that. It's free, so
give it a try.

 cheers,

1.A better debugger tool for ActionScript 2.0 pl

You can set breakpoints in the AS file from the debugger when it is running.

All you need to do is put a breakpoint in your fla somewhere in the timeline,
not in the AS class. Then when you debug the fla and stop at that breakpoint ,
click on the list box above the actionscript window in your debugger. Your AS
class will be listed there. Select it from there and you can happily insert
breakpoints.

 Lazz.

3.Selection Tool and SubSelection Tool and ActionScript

If I have a movieclip with ActionScript in it, I need to toggle between
Selection Tool and SubSelection Tool to view the code as if the movieclip
has two dimensions in which I can place two different codes.
What is the purpose of this?
Which code has precedence?
Can these codes be in conflict?
