http://www.**--****.com/ #4.3 DVD-RW has a similar relationship to DVD-R as CD-RW is to CD-R. A DVD-RW can be used like a giant floppy, but only if packet writing software is installed (Roxio's Drag-to-disc, or Nero InCD) and the disc is formatted with it. (Drag-to-disc can also be used with a DVD-R, but the space from an erased file is not recovered.) I don't have a link to the specs, but I believe that DVD-RAM can be rewritten many more times than DVD-RW (or DVD+RW). I've seen DVD-RAM used as a removable data cartridge on a PC. I don't know whether DVD-RAM is superior to DVD-RW (or DVD+RW) in any other way. It's actually an older format than DVD-RW, but I've seen it used in video recorders more than in home PCs. Address scrambled. Replace nkbob with bobkn.
I hope you don't mind if I cut in and ask about Roxio's and Nero writing software? Two years ago I bought two CenDyne CD burners a few months apart, both came with Nero 5 (difference versions). You cannot swap or interchange the software with the burner. Questions: 1. Can you read Nero's burn/read DVD/CD with Roxio software or vice versa and which is better? 2. Which burner is better: LG GSA 4163B or Sony DRX510UL? Thank you in advance.
Yikes. Someone appears to have mistaken me for an expert. If you're referring to regular burned CDs or DVDs, as long as they are burned in standard formats, you don't need burner software to read the disks. Roxio's Drag-to-disc (packet writing software, formerly DirectCD) is partially compatible with Nero's InCD. Drag-to-disc works with both CD-R and CD-RW, but InCD requires CD-RW. There may also be issues with the Mt. Rainier format. (InCD supports Mt. Rainier; I don't know whether Drag-to-disc does.) I used CD-RW disks between my PC at work (DirectCD) and my home system (InCD) a couple of years ago, but lately I've been transporting data on a USB flash drive. The last time I tried Nero's InCD, it tended to cause crashes (XP SP2). Maybe it didn't get along with Norton Systemworks 2004. For straight writing, I prefer Nero, mainly because it includes an optional binary file comparison check. I haven't used either burner that you list. My own burner is a Plextor PX-708A. I like it, although it's practically prehistoric in the current market (more than a year old).
I'm the proud owner of a new LG GSA 4163 drive. What type of DVD media is best to use? DVD+RW or DVD RAM? What advantanges and disadvantages are there to either media? Thanks.
2.DVD RW no longer seen as an RW but as a RAM drive
I have an LG GSA-4163B that I had installed in a machine running WinXP Pro. In the old machine, I had no problems writing to either DVD-R or CD-R. I bought a barebones and reinstalled my memory, HDDs, DVD, and OS and now the system only sees it as a DVD-RAM that can burn CDs but no DVDs. Please help. Thanks. Robert
3.error and reboot if CD-RW or DVD-RAM drive connected to secondary IDE channel
I have tried all master/slave combination and one/two drive. Panasonic LF-D210 DVD-RAM and Lite on 52X CD-RW drive. If I disable the drives using device manger computer works fine. This is a custom built computer with a K7VZA MBO bios ver 3.7, athlon processor 1.4GHz, 896MB RAM and Win XP home edition sp-1. Any suggestion. email to $$$$zaman65$$$$@gmail.com Thank you
4.Iomega Super Dual DVD USB 2.0 and DVD-RAM
I am a bit confused about formatting DVD-RAM discs (on Windows 2000). Do I need a separate formatting utility or a specific driver? My Iomega drive (see subject) appears as a regular CD-ROM drive, and there is no format command available on the Windows menus. Otherwise the unit functions all right. Maybe the problem is with the disc I am using. I purchased a 4.7 Gb DVD-RAM disc with a cartridge and removed the casing. AFAIK, the disc inside the cartridge is a regular (jewel case) disc. I am wrong?
5.Which external DVD (+RW, -RW) Recommamd?
Which external DVD +RW -RW (including RW CD) shall I buy. I am leaning toward Pioneer, but have not decide which model. I have a GA-7VAXP Mobo, I could use either USB 2 or Firewire. Any other advice will be appreciated. Thanks
