  • 2. Princeton LCD17D - two DOA monitors - possible bad production run?
I just took delivery of a pair of Princeton LCD17D monitors that I ordered from provantage.com. I chose this model because it was the best deal I could find on a 17" monitor with a DVI input. This is the same physical model as the VL1716 that Costco sells, except that it has a 3-year warranty instead of the 1-year warranty that the VL1716 has. That's worth an extra $15 to me. :) Well, I hooked them up, and it appears that both monitors are DOA. When powered on, the backlight comes on, but no video signal is displayed (not even the OSD or the "no signal detected" error). The same thing happens with both monitors, connected to multiple computers. The serial numbers on the two are only 25 units apart (WCCD5000655 and WCCD5000680); has anyone else received one of these monitors DOA? If so, is the serial number in the same range as mine? I'm a bit nervous about having Provantage RMA it, as I don't know if the replacements will be from the same production run. And to make things even more frustrating, Princeton apparently doesn't have this model in their ticketing system yet - the rep told me "it's so new that the IT people haven't added it to the RMA system". So they can't RMA it directly at this time. Color me frustrated. -Chris
  • 3. Sony Premierpro 23" vs Samsung 243T
I will be buying one of these displays pretty soon. I am wondering if anybody has used them for any period of time and can share their opinions concerning them. I am especially interested in the Samsung as it is 24" vs 23" for the Sony. I haven't seen any comprehensive reviews of it anywhere, however. Interesting note: on one price-comparison site, a person who was considering that display noted that Samsung has been waiting for orders to fill and then shipping out a small number of monitors to fill the backorders. - -- Charles

Quick question. Does anyone know of an inexpensive mobo with good quality tv out. I live in Europe so it would also need to be PAL
  • 5. How long until lower prices on 21" LCDs?
I've looked with interest at some of the 21.3" LCDs; there's the Samsung 213t and Viewsonic VP211b and Planar PX212M. These currently cost several hundred dollars more than the 20" models of the same resolution (1600 x 1200). I'm holding out for the bigger monitors, and I'm guessing the price will drop significantly one day...but when? Weeks? Months? Years?

Viewsonic monitor - no display when reboot WinXP

Postby abc » Sat, 25 Nov 2006 01:19:56 GMT

I have a Viewsonic 2025WM LCD monitor that works extremely well but
has an annoying problem.

If I reboot Windows the display flashes at 1second intervals, it
alternates between a blank screen and the DOS boot up messages, it
then stays completely back as Windows loads. The power Led on the
on/off button then flashes.

If I unplug the monitor from the mains wait a few seconds then plug it
back in I have a display again.

Anyone come across this before?

I have the resolution set to the recommended 1680x1050 60Hz 32bit
colour and a ATI Radeon 9600 AGP video card.

tnx

John

It sounds like maybe you have multiple different versions of the driver
and/or software installed, and that somehow older versions are mixing
with newer versions. Try totally uninstalling all of the versions of the
ATI software, and reinstall only the lastest version after the reboot.

3.Can't extend screen display onto second monitor afte r reboot Vista 64桼adeon X1900

I am reposting this with a different thread name because I now have a
quite different understanding now of what is going on. Although the
CCC interface works somewhat clumsily, when I reinstall CCC version
10.2ach time I reinstall it in fact, I am able to extend my screen
on to the second monitor. I see an icon for screen 1 and a separate
icon for screen 2 as I should and I can control the resolutions of
each monitor independently of the other. When I reboot, no matter what
I do, only the screen 1 icon appears and, although I can clone onto
the second monitor I cannot extend my main monitor desktop onto it.

Coincidentally with every version of CCC I have used in Vista 64 I
have always had to reset the resolution (it defaults to 640 X 480)
after every reboot. Now it is bad enough having to reset the
resolution after every reboot. I would hate to think that I also have
to reinstall CCC after every reboot whenever I want to extend the main
screen onto a second monitor.

I am hoping that this new information may help someone help me
understand and fix what is going on here.

Thanks in advance for any help!

5.Viewsonic (P225f) monitor question (or any viewsonic CRT question)

Does the p225f/f-b or other recent viewsonic CRTs have an internal
horizontal size adjustment? I want to adjust the horizontal size (as
it seems to have shrunk slightly over time (maybe about an inch, so
some of the refresh rates are no longer quite edge-to-edge, unless
they are "presets"), but I am already at 100% on horizonal and the
"Sub horizontal" in the "hidden" menu. Is there a pot or dial on
these monitors where you can adjust the h-size?

The only pots I saw internally (in the standard location) are for
brightness and two focus knobs (H and V focus).

If anyone can help me, I would appreciate it.
It's under warranty, but I don't want to be without a computer for
several weeks /months while viewsonic makes an adjustment......
