  • 2. Change address bar select behavior?
Hello, Is there any way in IE6 to be able to click in the address bar and not have the entire current URL be selected? I would like to be able to click in the address bar and position my cursor at the point where I clicked rather than have the entire URL selected. I know I can do this by clicking twice in the address bar, but this is inconvenient for long URLS because the selection behavior causes scrolling to the end of the URL when it is selected. This forces me to click, click again, then press the Home key to position my cursor where I want it in the URL. It would be great to be able to do this by clicking once if there's a registry tweak that allows this. Thanks. Bruce

Animated GIFs Stopped Working

I just did a total format and software install from scratch, and I should
have done it a long time ago!

The last thing I need to do is find out how to turn the "Animation" option
back on again.

I tried the "Advanced" tab in "Internet Settings", but no luck. All the JAVA
stuff works fine, but just my animated GIFs, and animated GIFs at other
websites are not ... well ... animated?

Hi Bob :-)

Try the following and see if it helps:

Animation on websites not working:

IE>Internet Options>Advanced tab>Multimedia section>"Play animations in web

pages">Apply>OK out.

Zone Alarm Pro can prevent animation from working. If you have it installed
open the programme, go to the Privacy Tab and click on the custom button and
be sure that the option to block animation is turned to OFF.

Other programs such as @Guard can disable animated .gifs, therefore, be sure
no programs are set to disable gifs..

Make sure your .gifs are associated to Internet Explorer. Click on a .gif in
windows explorer, IE should open to display it. :

Animated GIFs don't work:

Easy way (Doug Knox's script utility):

Go to Start>Run and type in the wondow:
regsvr32.exe /i shdocvw.dll (all versions of IE) ... and then
   regsvr32.exe /i shdoc401.dll (IE5 upwards)

If using WindowsME the command is:

  regsvr32.exe /i thumbvw.dll

You should soon see a *succeeded* dialogue box after each command.
Click ok, and then reboot

If these steps do not resolve your problem, or you need help with the above,
please post back to this thread with the details and any error messages.

Hope this helps

Jan :)

5.Animated .gifs not animated

When I load a web site in Firefox or Internet Explorer, the animated
.gif files aren't showing animation. Does anyone know how to fix this

I have tried a couple things, to no avail.
1) Cleared my cookies and deleted all temp files.
2) Reset my web settings in IE.

Old .gif files, saved on my computer, are showing animation.
