  • 2. Customers Browser is running VERY SLOW!
I was called to look at a customers browser as it was running slow. When I got there I started the browser and Waited, and Waited, and Waited. It finally opened, but it took about 45 - 50 secs. I opened the task manager to monitor the cpu load, and guess what there was none. I watched the task manager when I changed web sites, I saw the browser go into "non responding" mode, then after the 50 secs it said running. The customers office inists on running Gator (yes I said "insists" on gator for password saving") So when I run adaware of course I see TONS of spyware (mostly all pertaining to Gator). His system is a pIII with 256 mb 12gig (of available HD space) running 2000, with ALL service packs. Any ideas what this can be? I am contemplaiting repairing/ reinstalling IE 6.0. P.s. I got the same results logged into their domain, as well as in local admin mode! THanks all
  • 3. can't open a file in the save file dialog box
when I try to save a file in IE6.0, a file download box appears. Normally there are options to "open" or "save" the file. If I choose "open", nothing happens. The "save" option will work, but sometimes I just want to open the file and view it without downloading it. What can I do to fix this problem?
  • 4. Unable to use the back button in IE6 Sp1

Animated GIFs Stopped Working

Postby Bob Simmons » Mon, 24 Jan 2005 12:40:09 GMT

I just did a total format and software install from scratch, and I should
have done it a long time ago!

The last thing I need to do is find out how to turn the "Animation" option
back on again.

I tried the "Advanced" tab in "Internet Settings", but no luck. All the JAVA
stuff works fine, but just my animated GIFs, and animated GIFs at other
websites are not ... well ... animated?

Thanks

Hi Bob :-)

Try the following and see if it helps:

Animation on websites not working:

IE>Internet Options>Advanced tab>Multimedia section>"Play animations in web

pages">Apply>OK out.

Zone Alarm Pro can prevent animation from working. If you have it installed
open the programme, go to the Privacy Tab and click on the custom button and
be sure that the option to block animation is turned to OFF.

Other programs such as @Guard can disable animated .gifs, therefore, be sure
no programs are set to disable gifs..

Make sure your .gifs are associated to Internet Explorer. Click on a .gif in
windows explorer, IE should open to display it. :

also....

Animated GIFs don't work:

Easy way (Doug Knox's script utility):
 http://www.**--****.com/

or.....

Go to Start>Run and type in the wondow:
regsvr32.exe /i shdocvw.dll (all versions of IE) ... and then
   regsvr32.exe /i shdoc401.dll (IE5 upwards)

If using WindowsME the command is:

  regsvr32.exe /i thumbvw.dll

You should soon see a *succeeded* dialogue box after each command.
Click ok, and then reboot

If these steps do not resolve your problem, or you need help with the above,
please post back to this thread with the details and any error messages.

Hope this helps

5.Animated .gifs not animated

When I load a web site in Firefox or Internet Explorer, the animated
.gif files aren't showing animation. Does anyone know how to fix this
problem?

I have tried a couple things, to no avail.
1) Cleared my cookies and deleted all temp files.
2) Reset my web settings in IE.

Old .gif files, saved on my computer, are showing animation.
