  • 1. Help! Browser keeps shutting down!
When I go to certain websites, the browser shuts down unexpectedly. It's acting like I have some kind of filter running, but I can't figure out if I have a filter set. Any help out there? Thanks
  • 2. IE 6 closes when accessing a web page
I'm not sure what is going on, I've tried everything. When my wife opens Interntet Explorer on her laptop, she can browse fine. But, when she clicks on a web page link (and it's only this specific page, no others), IE 6 browser window imediately closes? I can open this page with no problems on my computer, so it's not a problem with the web page. I have tride to find anything in the Microsoft Knowledgebase, but nothing? Does anyone have any ideas? The operating system is XP. Rob
  • 3. Pop-up on opening IE 6
Only after booting up, when I access IE 6, I receive an undesirable pop-up. The pop-up will not permit me to view "Properties" and determine its origin. The pop-up will only permit closing. I have installed IE Pop-Up blocker, but this one is bleeding through. Any advise would be appreciated. Thank you.
  • 4. Hijacked Address Search
I had my address bar search hijacked by Orbiter (it was set to Google). I managed to purge the application (apparently) with Ad-aware. The problem is it still resides in the address bar (?!). When I click the customize search button nothing happens. Did they somehow inactivate this option? I finally gave up and added the Google search bar but, that cuts down my display area. I have tried searching with file Explorer in the hopes of finding a text file that could be modified to no avail.

Some web pictures cannot be viewed. Most pictures will
appear normally. Some pictures show only a small box with
a red x in it. I have enabled show pictures. What else
can I do? I run IE 6 on XP, 1.6 GHz Dell, 40 gig HD, and
512 meg memory.

The article on the sramesh2k site discussing "no images" is missing. Any

Since you asked <G>...

Many possibilities...
Try the quick, easy fix first. Clear the IE cache from IE> Tools> Internet
Options> General> Delete files and Delete offline content. Reset the TIF
folder size to about 50MB (Settings button) and clear it occasionally.

Are you using a Firewall or "filtering software"?

Several of these are known to cause problems:
1) Zone Alarm Pro [Private Header Info - enabled?]
Reset "Ad Blocking" and "Cookie Control" to "medium"
"Mobile Code Control" = Off

2) Symantec (ISS\NIS)[Enable Browser Privacy - enabled]
Active Content - "Allow All Script To Execute"
Problem: some sites cannot detect the 128 bit encryption
Solution: Completely remove and reinstall NIS.

6) Pop-up blockers that are stripping header\url info.

7) WebWasher Standard Filter/URL Filter

8) Make sure the following entry is not corrupt:
"User Agent"="Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Win32)"

Note: "Win32" = Windows 98\ME
Other versions = (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.0;)

To check your "User Agent":

I hope that you can help me with a problem that I have with Internet Explorer
If I go to a site that has text and pictures, such as BBC News, very few of the pictures are visible
Refreshing the page does not improve the situation
If I click on a visible picture, then the "back" button, more is refreshed
Sometimes this process takes several attempts before the full page is visible
