customise y axis on clustered bar chart

  • 1. Bar chart tracking date and cost
I working for a manufacturing firm and I need a bar graph that spands over a time period for each product, the time period starts with a start date, spans over a beta launch date, and ends with a final production date. Then I would like to be able to input cost fiqures in the bar itself. Is this possible? If I could, I would like the x-axis to be broken into ficsal quarters. and the y to represent each product line. Thank you for the support.
  • 2. Disabling Error Message about -ve or Zero values on Log Charts
I have a log chart with all +ve values, (small values are included) but it has some zero values so of course Excel gives me a message. It's a Dynamic Chart Range so I don't want to change the range manually everytime. I know there is a way to use Pivot Tables to make the Chart Range Dynamic, but isn't there some way of just disabling this message? Kristian
  • 3. excluding weekends from date format
Thank you to Jon Peltier for the reply to my previous question. What a clever solution. On another much simpler question. How do I prevent weekends from creating a 2 day gap when I chart stock data. Excel recognises the x axis as a date and formats it as such but the hi lo close chart includes 2 blank spaces to represent weekends even though there are no weekends in data. Thank you
  • 4. keep pivotchart formatting
Hi! Is it possible to keep all the formatting in a pivotchart after i refresh the data. Although i check the preserve formatting option, every time i refresh tha data, i loose all the changes i made in the chart, and it allways goes back to the default excel formatting. Thanks

If you're wanting a custom label/scale, you might want to check out Jon
Peltier's article:

1.Dual Axis Clustered Stack Bar Chart

I need to display a data set on a dual axis clustered stack chart. It needs
to be sorted by month for a six month period, with two groups of data, each
with up to 20 types of data in each group. The data is located in an access
database. I have built an extract that will dump data to Excel, sorted by
month, group, and data type. Each data type has a value for that month. The
chart needs to be a bar chart, not a line chart. Any help will be greatly

2.Customise error bars on individual bars in a bar chart 2007

I posted this question a couple of days ago but it there seems to be an issue
with the MS notification system and I can't access the answer that someone
posted for me.

I want to allocate individual values for error bars in a bar chart, I'm
using Excel 2007. There is a customise option but the values you select apply
to all bars on the chart. As the bars in my charts are a mean value in
themselves, I want to show the error applicable to that bar.

3.Can I combine a cluster bar chart and a stacked bar chart in one

I have four columns of information. I need column A and B to stack on each
other and column C and D need to stack on each other. I'd then like the two
to be shown side by side.

Is it possible to mix two subtypes of charts?

5.Clustered bar chart - bars not touching

Hi - I posted a question last week that no-one has answered, either its
impossible to do or I didn't phrase it properly!

Re: Clustered bar chart
I have monthly data ranges with 5 possible values, eg May has 5 sales
figures, June has 5 sales figures, July 06 etc. When there are 5
non-zero values in one month the bars all touch each other and are
clearly defined as being from that month. The bars represented are in
a series order defined in the options. Where there are zero values
in a month, the series order remains and a space appears between the
bars. For example, if the data in June is 5, 0, 0, 0, 4 the bars
appear at the extreme right and left of the range with nothing in
between. This makes the graph difficult to 'read'. Is there anyway
to ask the bars to touch, ie ignore zero-value bars?

Failing that, is there anyway to insert vertical dividers between each
month's data so that the data is clearly defined.

Previous question: unanswered.
I have a data range per month with 5 possible values. When there are
non-zero results for all 5, the columns sit next to each other, which
is fine. However I'd like the columns to sit next to each other for
only the non-zero values, ie if there only two rows in my data range
that have non-zero values, there should be two columns on my chart next
to each other with no gaps between them. The range selection is as
follows: "=Sheet1!$A$61:$BD$66". In short, I'd like the column chart
to ignore the 0 values in the data range and not to plot them or leave
a space for them.

Hope you can help!

Many thanks in advance
