  • 1. template for comparing projected vs actual milestone completion?
I already have an Excel table which calculates projected milestone dates from given start and finish dates, and then compares those dates with the actual milestone dates as they are achieved. I would like to be able to convert that table into a chart showing the projects on the Y scale in ascending expected order, and two date lines (projected and actual milestones) on the X axis. My intent is to graphically compare projected dates with actual ones in a "stairstep" line graph, showing when a project is ahead or behind schedule, and also show a broken line where actual milestone dates are missing.
  • 2. Creating a stacked column chart with percentage in the graph
I have retrieve this result (pivot table) from my raw data: ---------------------+----------+ Count of student | Grade | ---------------------+----------+----------+-----------------+ Class | 1 | 2 | Grand Total | ---------------------+----------+----------+-----------------+ A | 5 | 4 | 9 | ---------------------+----------+----------+-----------------+ B | 2 | 3 | 5 | ---------------------+----------+----------+-----------------+ C | 5 | 3 | 8 | ---------------------+----------+----------+-----------------+ If I would like to create a stacked column chart with 100% for each class but the y-axis 's value should be the as the number of students, may I know if there is any way that i can create this? percentage is calculated using (Grand Total / grade) , example: for Class C, grade 1: Percentage will be: (5/8) * 100 = 62.5% Graph should be : X - axis: Unit Name Y - axis: No of users In each line of the units should reflect the percentage of each grade for each unit Appreciate any advises! :)
  • 3. Help, I can't resize chart legends on my axes or titles
I only have this problem on this machine. Things work fine on all others Running Office 2003 (SP2) on XP Pro (SP2) on an Inspiron 9300. When I enter text into chart legends, it gets clipped and when I click on the frame, Excel won't let me drag the frame wider. What could be causing this? If I copy the file to another computer and reopen, it's fine, everything works, but if I copy it back the problem immediately returns. I've run the update for Excel, I've updated my video drivers, nothing works.
  • 4. Can I use data from different worksheets to create a chart
I am running Excel 2000. I have 3 worksheets from different schools. I want to compare ratings from each of the schools in one chart. Can I do that and, if so, how. Thanks

Omitting Part of the Y-Axis

Postby Dave McGuire » Tue, 26 Jul 2005 17:57:05 GMT

Hi,

I'm creating a chart with some values very high (hundreds of thousands),
and some of the values quite low (hundreds) and would like them
displayed so that their relative values are clear, but don't want a
massive graph with a large blank space in the middle.

How can I omit some of the y-axis values and replace with perhaps a
zig-zag line as you might if you were sketching a similar graph?

Cheers,

Dave

Hi,

Have a look at this explanation. There are also links to other examples
at the end of the page.

Hi,

Thanks for this. I thought it was going to be easy. I might just split
into two seperate charts.

Thanks for the help anyways.

1.Changing Y axis to omit part of the scale

Is it possible to omit the middle of the Y axis scale when you have
wide range of numbers?

I am already using two Y axes to plot two different data types (
number and a percentage) but there is a massive extreme in my numbe
data, causing the data at the lower end of the scale to look like i
has not been plotted on the chart.

What I would like to do is have my scale showing 0 to 10,000 then hav
a blip to indicate some missing numbers, and then restart the scal
again at 400,000 to accommodate the other data points. Any suggestions

2.Omitting right part of text string

Hi,

I want to omit the right part of a text string that starts with "(" and ends
in ")" while returning the left part of the text string. I would have a cell
that contains a name such as "Lysell, Kent". Right after this name a number
in parenthesis is concatenated. For example, I would need to return only
"Lysell, Kent" from "Lysell, Kent(111)". This number might be 1 to 4 digits
long. Is there a formula that would omit this number in parethesis -
including the parenthesis - while returning just the name?

Thanks in advance!

When i type a word in persian (farsi) that has two parts like I cannot
omit the space between and . As soon as I do this the two parts join

In older version of office 97 we used two press Shift+Space bottons after
part and then type part, which used to omit the space between them
without causing them to join.
