Over 50 empty IE windows open when I click a link to an email address

  • 1. Yahoo bulk mail Spam
I use yahoo mail a my primary email account. Along with most people (I guess) I have been getting loads of spam. SpamGuard is active on my yahoo account and whan I look at my inbox in yahoo (through my browser) I see my filtered mails - and blocked senders in by 'bulk mail' box. However when I syncronise my account through Outlook express I get ALL mails - irrespective of if they have been filtered. Any ideas?

My father recently had a bout of "bugbear." We salvaged his Outlook Express folders (.dbx files) and backed up to CD-R. He restaged his PC and reinstalled the OS, OE6, etc. Now when the old .dbx's are placed in the new "store folder", OE6 doesn't recognize them. We've tried renaming the folders.dbx to .old. We've also tried to "import" the old .dbx's, to no avail. Please help. Thanks.
  • 3. Share an OE store file over a Network?
I just put together a home network between my old PC and a new notebook. Is there any way to get OE on my notebook to use the same OE store that my PC uses so I can view and reorganize mail on my notebook, but my PC is the machine that downloads it from the server?

Over 50 empty IE windows open when I click a link to an email address

Postby Essex Hammer » Tue, 30 May 2006 05:52:39 GMT

The subject box ALMOST says it all.....I have 4 users on my home
computer and this only happens in one of the accounts.

I can link to web pages with no problem but if I link to an email
address the computer freezes for a few minutes and then anything from
50 - 60 empty Internet Explorer windows open one after the other.
This happens if I click a link in Outlook Express or in Mozilla ( my
preferred web browser)

You may have a spyware infection, but first see if the info below helps:

Some third party programs that you install to prevent popups and ads can
cause this. Disable them and see if the problem goes away.

Also, see the following articles:

If using a branded version of IE/OE (as supplied by your ISP or some 3rd
party other than a download from MS), you may need to do the following:

1. Click Start/Run.
2. Type - regsvr32 urlmon.dll and hit the enter key and wait for a message
of completion.

If none of those help, try the following

Go to: Start/Run/Regedit and navigate to this key:

In the right pane, delete the CLSID. Reboot.

1.a click on an e-mail hyperlink opens over 50 ie browser window

Yes - I ran a virus scan - that was obviously one of the very first things I
did when I saw the problem. I updated Windows, Office and Norton Security.
Nothing helped.

I don't understand why this wouldn't be an office issue when this problem
has also been seen in Outlook - I googled the problem and found this very
same behavior, but that was back in 2004 and I was not able to contact the
person - the only difference was that his problem was in Outlooke and opened
over 60 windows and my friend's problem was in Word and opened over 50. In
both cases the problem was only related to the e-mail hyperlink. I work quite
a bit with computers and have never seen this behavior before. Since it's not
my computer, I don't really want to reinstall anything, but that may be the

Any help would be appreciated.

2.Clicking on hyperlinked email addresses produces 50+ windows

Every time I try to send mail by clicking on an email address on a web page
outlook express goes crazy and produces a large group of windows. Can
anyone help?

3.I.E. 5.5 click link and open a new window

I.E. 5.5 on W2k, is there a way to click a link and have it open a new I.E.
window by default, without using the right click "open in a new window"

Doesn't matter to me but a user opened a ticket on it. After looking around
it appears that the right click method is the way it's supposed to work. He
said it used to work that way, a left click and it would open a new windows.
This was before the company was taken off Novell and onto AD, and everyone's
PC was reimaged. I don't know what version of I.E. he had previously.
