  • 2. Unable to Change Sound Notification of New Mail
I have read many postings, regarding other persons' difficulties in changing their sound notification for new mail. I seem to have a unique problem, however. My Dell laptop only gives me a "balloon pop" noise, when new mail arrives in my Outlook Express 6 account. I have repeatedly tried to go into the Control Panel/Sounds section, to change my notification sound to something louder or "better" (such as a "tada" or a "Microsoft Notify" sound). However, no matter what I do, the balloon pop still remains the notification sound. It is extremely frustrating. All of the other sounds (such as Start Up, Recycle Bin, etc.) are normal -- it's just the New Mail Notification that I am unable to correct. Does anyone have any ideas??? OE as default email program

Postby SW5nZTAzOQ » Thu, 28 Apr 2005 12:38:02 GMT

I am trying to change the default email program to OE. When I select a pic
out of my pictures folder and select send by email, Outlook opens. I have
gone through Internet Explorer and tried to change there but Outlook Express
is not one of the selections, only Outlook. I have also tried Set Program
Access Defaults through Start Menu but couldn't figure it out. I think it is
the URL Mail To listed but am not sure. Thanks for any help.

Best way is in Create Mail, Insert | Picture and browse to the folder
that contains the pic you want.

If you do have a default e-mail problem:

Make OE the default e-mail client:
 http://www.**--****.com/

See this if it still does not set as default:

Thanks. The reason I use the folder method for sending pics is XP will
resize them for emailing purposes. I currently use OE as my emailer but when
I select "Email this file" it resizes the pics and then an outlook profile
box opens. When I went into internet explorer in tools, options, programs
tab, I cannot change the email to outlook express, the only option is outlook
or blank.

Did you do everything in the first link?

Go to Start | Run and type the following:
"C:\PROGRAM FILES\OUTLOOK EXPRESS\MSIMN.EXE" /reg
(Check the path to msimn.exe to make sure that is correct)

Then open Internet Explorer and go to Tools | Internet Options |
Programs and set OE as the default mail (and news) program.

Did you check the second link?

5/11/05 - I finally got a chance to sit down and work your fixes on my OE not
being the default mail handler. I ended up changing the registry and it
worked beautifully. Thanks for your expert help!

1.cannot set oe as default email program for ie6

Hi there,

For some reason Explorer 6.0 will not let me assign a
program to e-mail under

Tools -> Internet Options -> Programs

I would dearly love to set it to Outlook Express, but it
doesn't give me any options in the window. Related to
this is that whenever I click an email reference, either
in OE or IE6, I get a cascade of IE6 windows and error
messages, but no chance to send an email.

I am running XP-pro, IE6 and OE6.

Cheers,

Craig

2.Can't Set OE as Default Email Program

I just reinstalled XP, now I can't set OE as the default
email program.

1) The box under Internet Options in IE is blank with no
drop down and no way to type in text.

2) OE asks me if it wants to be set as the default email
program, but when I reply, the request is ignored.

Could the be a registry problem? Something else?

Thanks

3.How to select OE as default email program

In IE 6 I need to select OE Express as the default e-mail program.

I went to Tools/Internet Options/Programs. And under the section that has:
"You can specify which program Windows automatically uses for each Internet
service.", in the "E-mail" selection box I am not able to select OE because
nothing is there.

Any suggestions on how to get OE to appear in this box would be appreciated.
 Thank you for your attention.

5.Unable to set OE as default email program

I recently did a XP upgrade from ME and did the new installation after a
format. All went well and everything seemed to be OK. That is until I
inadvertantly OKed MS Outlook during a Office 97 install. I uninstalled the
Outlook and thought it was done, but I found that I had lost the OE shortcut
in the Start menu. Fooling around I was able to pin one and get it going.
The trouble is that I am not able to set OE as the default email program at
Tools-Internet Options-Programs. Nothing is listed there to select and I
can't type in OE. Now, I can still start OE and receive and send messages,
but my scanner and software(Visioneer/PaperPort) configuration will not
recognize OE as a destination for sending emails. Plus I cannot put a
shortcut on the Quicklaunch bar. I have tried the methods the ElderGeek has
suggested from altering the registry lines regarding OE (is install to "0"),
running sfc /scannow, and trying to reinstall Internet Explorer. When I
tried reinstalling IE from the ElderGeek's site link, I was told I had a
newer version of OE and the install was stopped. How can I clean this mess
up? Thanks in advance.
