  • 3. using my MS Word editor
Is there a way to use the MS Word editor in OE like there is in Outlook? When I used Outlook, it would automatically correct spellings, capitalizations, etc. just like in Word. Any suggestions? Thanks.
  • 4. Can't find folders when trying to create rules
I imported all of my messages and folders from Outlook into OE. None of my message rules came along for the ride, so I am trying to create them. When I click on "specified folder" I get an hourglass shape and then it eventually disappears. I never get another window or a list of folders or anything. I can't find anything on the web about this... any ideas??
  • 5. Need help finging OE folders
Before reformatting my laptop hard drive I backed up the hard drive onto and external hard drive. After reformatting the laptop and reinstalling the backup I can't find or retrieve the OE folders or address book. OE came up brand new as if it had never been set up. I've tried to find the address book and folders on the backup but they don't seem to be there. I even tried looking for hidden files and folders but had no luck. Is there anyway to get them back or are they gone forever? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Linda

Resetting The Don't Show Me This Again Message

Postby Earle Zwicker » Tue, 22 Mar 2005 01:08:15 GMT

I am using Outlook Express 6, with Windows xp service pack 2. I recently exited Outlook Express,
and was asked, if I wanted to compact messages. I said ok, but I accidentally, checked the don't
show me this message again box. The thing is, I don't want outlook express to automatically compact
messages. Is there a way to reset this, so it will ask me, if it should compact messages?

Replace the Compact Prompt:

Go to: Start>Run>Regedit>Enter and follow this path:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Identities\{GUID}\Software\Microsoft\Outlook
Express\5.0\Don't Show Dialogs

In the right pane right click on the appropriate entry and
choose Delete.

Compacting your folders periodically is a must to keep OE
functioning well and at some point, you may lose all your
saved messages if
you don't. See:
 http://www.**--****.com/ #compact

And this is a very good option:

Steve Cochran has added a button in his new version of OE
Tool
that will not only Compact All Folders, but at the same
time,
resets the "Compact Check Count" to zero whenever you
compact
manually. You will see the prompt again if you do not
compact
before 100 closings.

It is still advised to check Work Offline before you
compact.

It is advisable to allow the compact to go ahead. Some say while working
'offline'?

This is a new feature in OE under XP-SP2, it replaces the 'back ground'
compaction feature.
You will get that prompt to compact after 100
OE closings,

To restore the don't ask, go here:
Go to: Start>Run>Regedit>OK and find this key.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Identities\{GUID}\Software\Microsoft\Outlook
Express\5.0\Dont Show Dialogs

Reset the value to 0 (zero)

To stop it - for now!!

Go to: Start>Run>Regedit>OK and find this key.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Identities\{long number}\Software\Microsoft\Outlook
Express\5.0. In the right
hand pane and find *Compact Check Count* >right click>modify>decimal>and set
the value to 0,
(zero). This will reset the prompt, and you won't see it again for
another 100 closings.

FYI:
Steve Cochran has added a button in his new version of *OE Tool*
that will Compact All Folders, and at the same time,
resets the "Compact Check Count" to zero whenever you compact
manually.
You will see the prompt again if you do not compact
before 100 closings.

Thanks for this, but when I go into regedit, under identities, there are 4 entries. I know that
there must be one for each identity, I have in Outlook express. How do I know, which one to change.

OE>tools>options>maintenance tab>store folder>select all>copy. paste that
some where to read it.

Hello people,
I was installing my w910i phone on Vista Professional and by mistake pressed

How do I undo this choise, so as to install the drivers?

5.Some messages sent to me don't show up and messages I send don't p

My internet provider is Comcast. I got the new Vista computer in the fall.
My Outlook express account was imported into this Windows email. Recently,
about a month ago, I found that a great number of messages sent to me weren't
getting to me. Also I can no longer review sent messages. Some don't post.
Recently I started entering a Subject in all of my emails, but still some
are not showing up in my sent folder.
And I am still not getting all of the emails.
Today I was a Copyto and didn't get that email. My email was listed in the
CC field.
These messages are not showing up in Junk.
I have noticed that I get the bell that I got a message but it doesn't show
up.
In addition, I have found some of the messages if I click Show all Messages
I saw some. Then if I click Hide Read or Ignored Messages others show up.
One that I supposedly did not get, I saw in Show All Messages but as soon as
I read it, it disappeared. Now it is not in Show All messages, Hide REad or
Ignored Messages, nor in the Deleted folder.
I am not happy with how this program is working.
I depend on viewing all messages that are sent to me and on being able to
see who I wrote to and what I wrote.
Thank you, Louise
