  • 1. Retain Portrait Print Preference for One User's Email Printing
This may not be an OE issue, so please redirect as needed. Have 2 XP User Accounts, but one OE Identity. One XP User has no problem printing email in Portrait (as set from File | Print | Preferences and clicking Portrait button on the Orientation section of the Layout tab). Once this preference is set it remains. For other XP User, printing email ( File | Print | Preferences ... as above always shows the Orientation reset back to Landscape. Changing the preference to Portrait works, but the setting is not retained after the user closes OE. Both users are printing to the same printer, which has Orientation section of the Layout tab (reached via Control Panel | Printers ... selecting the printer then Printer | Printing preferences) set to Portrait. How do I stop XP User 2's printer preferences from being reset back to Landscape each time they open OE?

Unable to select text for cutting and copying

Postby Thomas » Sat, 11 Sep 2004 20:14:26 GMT

In my Outlook Express 6, I am not able to select text in the body of the
message, i.e. I can't highlight it in order to cut or copy. When I drag the
cursor over the text, nothing happens (the cursor stays where it started).

Any ideas, please?
Many thanks.

Try to forward it, then try again.

Did you recently try to install XP SP2?

I notice from your message headers:

X-Newsreader: Microsoft Outlook Express 6.00.2800.1437
X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V6.00.2900.2180

The first line indicate SP1 whereas the second line indicates SP2. That could mean an
incomplete or corrupted install of SP2. You may need to uninstall and reinstall SP2.
For best results, disable your anti-virus program while installing.

I am having this same problem but I do have SP2 installed. It used to work
and then when our computer guy looked at for something unrelated to OE6 it
stopped highlighting text. I can't delete or move text easily. I am a novice
and I don't understand what you mean by "copy and paste the results in your
reply" that your replied to acraddoc's message on this topic. Can you walk us
through the procedure STEP BY STEP, Michael? thanks. Sara

See my reply to your other posting.

Regarding that, I was thinking that you were posting with OE rather than the web
interface. So my comment regarding your being unable to copy/paste the text PA Bear asked
for doesn't apply.

1.when I cut/paste I get the whole screen not just selected text

This doesn't seem to help. It happens within application (from word doc to
word doc) and across applications (eg: from internet to word doc). It happens
whether I use the drop down menu or shortcut keys or right mouse click...

5.Copy selected text and hook into right-click menus

I am trying to write VBA code that, among other things, copies the text
currently selected by a user (whether in an E-Mail or a notes field of a
task/appointment/contact/etc.).

I want the code to be launchable via an entry on the right-click menu if
possible.

I can't seem to figure out how to get the currently-selected text.

Nor can I figure out how to hook into the right-click menu.

Thoughts?
