Before I drop alot of money on this in my organization, I want to make absolute sure it will be what we need. I've been using it by myself on my installation on my desktop and it runs really good and I'm impressed with the features, mainly the contact management. Currently we have a public folder contact system that is difficult to maintain (7000+ contacts), and using BCM seems like it will streamline the process a little easier by using Accounts and categories the way it does. I also like the way you can create oppurtunies and follow up on them. The project management is exactly what I've been looking for as well. First of all, I'll want to install the BCM database on my production SQL server and point everyone to the location of it when BCM is installed. I didnt' have any doubts about this until I read somewhere that BCM is usually meant for individual use and everyone has their own database locally, this wouldn't work for us. Is it true? I think they were talking about BCM 2003 at the time though. Next I notice that if you look at an account, and go to the History window, it shows ALL emails, tasks, projects, notes, etc... every made for the account. Does this show up for all users, or do they only see the communication objects they created? Is there a way to specify who can see what based on account? How detailed is the security? That's my main question I'm not sure about. Thanks!
  • 2. Bulk Link to Record
Is there a way to select many emails and then "Link to Record"? I don't always remember to keep up with this and it would be nice to select a bunch of emails and link them to the same project, opportunity or whatever. One at a time is just too tedious and a waste of time. Thanks
  • 3. Outlook 2003 BCM SP4 update
Trying to install the BCM SP4 update for Outlook 2003. Near the end of the install, this message pops up: "Setup failed to install Microsoft Office 2003 with Business Contact Manager SP4. See [pathname on my computer] for more detail." The log file it gives in the pathname does not exist in the folder that it references nor anywhere else on my computer. I run Vista Ultimate. I have also installed the latest Windows updates. Any ideas?
  • 4. Outlook 2007 w/ BCM locks up
Hello, I am supporting a customer who has a SBS 2003 R2 server, all Vista Business clients with Office 2007 Small Business Edition. The BCM database is installed on SBS and is running great for all but one client. This client's Outlook has been working fine, but now locks up upon starting, specifically when trying to connect to the BCM database on the server. There is high CPU utilization by Outlook.exe and it never connects and renders Outlook unuseable. I have removed connection to the BCM database, and Outlook works perfectly. Please help me troubleshoot this problem. I've un-installed then re-installed BCM with identical results. Firewall is controlled by group policy and does not affect the other users connection to BCM. What else could it be. Please help! Thanks, Zevon
  • 5. Business Contact Manager Crashes when Designing Forms
I have attempted to design a new form for my Opportunities. Every time I try the systems crashes (twice.) It auto restarts and crashes again, and then auto restarts without crashing. I have XP SP3, and Office 2007 Compatibility SP. Any help would be greatly appreciated. ~Cheers

I'm entering a list of values which includes age bandings, eg 0-2, 3-7, 8-12.
Excel wants to turn the last two into dates ie 3 Jul and 8 Dec. How do i stop

Aloha NHSworker,

Well, you should probably post this in an Excel group -- this group is for
Outlook BCM.

That said -- try setting the format of the cells to something more specific.
 Like "Number".

2.Text turns into date - how to stop?

I have a file that associates codes that look like dates (OCT26 for example)
with a Saints Day. When I export to excel via .csv, it looks like 26-Oct, and
if I then pull the cell over into another worksheet, I get the number date
code 40112. The column is defined as TEXT. I need to compare the codes to
the table via VLOOKUP, so I can disply the description in the report. Is
there anyway to tell Excel not to try to make this code a date? (I did try
the ' suggestion, but it doesn't work in this case).
