Outlook 2007 w/ BCM locks up

Postby WmV2b24 » Fri, 23 May 2008 14:17:01 GMT

Hello,
I am supporting a customer who has a SBS 2003 R2 server, all Vista Business
clients with Office 2007 Small Business Edition. The BCM database is
installed on SBS and is running great for all but one client.

This client's Outlook has been working fine, but now locks up upon starting,
specifically when trying to connect to the BCM database on the server. There
is high CPU utilization by Outlook.exe and it never connects and renders
Outlook unuseable. I have removed connection to the BCM database, and
Outlook works perfectly.

Please help me troubleshoot this problem. I've un-installed then
re-installed BCM with identical results. Firewall is controlled by group
policy and does not affect the other users connection to BCM. What else
could it be. Please help!

Thanks,
Zevon

You can turn on logging in BCM About dlg. The logs might offer a clue.

Is the problem limited to using the database on the server--can this
client create and use its own local BCM database?

Sounds similar to a problem we had once.
What we found it to be that the user in question had 100s of followups
against contacts that were making it unusable whenever he tried to use bcm.
We fixed it by manually removing the follow ups in the BCM DB (not
recommended, but we did it and it worked).
That user was the only one who had an excess amount of those and deleting
them all did the trick.
Take a look in the DB and see if there is anything against that persons
account that looks like an abnormal amount of items.

Thanks for the response.

I'm thinking there is a bit of a paradox here - can't turn on logging
because Outlook locks up when I open it with BCM enabled.
Setting up a local database would require a lot of effort to answer that
question...plus I'm not sure what that would accomplish. Other users access
this database without any problems. It's just this one user. I even
confirmed that the same thing happens from another computer that works just
fine with one user, but when I log in as this user, it locks up. Must be
related to this particular user's data on the server.

Thanks!

Thanks for the response.

This sounds like a very good possibility. I have forwarded your comments to
this user so she can help me determine how she uses BCM and what kind of
links she makes within the program so I can narrow down my search through
the database. Any tips on how you did this successfully? Thanks!

3.OUtlook 2007 w/BCM SP1 - locking up

We have a few computers that is experiencing this same scenario.
Periodically when running Outlook 2007 with BCM it appears when it sends and
receives Outlook will lock up and one of the emails in the "in box" will
blink or flicker at you. It appears that while i was surfing there are quite
a few people experiencing the same thing. we are running on XP Professional
w/service pack 3. However on some threads it seems it is not exclusive to a
OS.

We reduced the .pst file size to 1.5 GB - but that doesn't seem to help
either. I did the repair feature within Outlook several times and nothing is
wrong or needs to be repaired. Once Outlook starts doing this you have only
two options a) wait for quite some time until it possible will stop
flickering (this doesn't always work) or b) press CTL / ALT / Del and End
Task. We are able to then re-open Outlook and it will work for a short time
and then repeat this action throughout the day.

The system has been checked for viruses and is clean on any system this
occurs on.

Have also tried the following;
1. Highlight the Inbox in the Mail Folders
2. Right click and select properties
3. Uncheck Automotically Generate Microsoft Exchange Views

It might work. If not change it back.

Any suggestions? this is very frustrating to say the least!

4.Outlook 2010 Beta Lock ups

Just installed Office Professional 2010. Outlook keeps locking up. I can
get it to start, although slow but once I click on a folder is just churns
away and nothing happens. I have to then shut it down and restart it. I
have a number of pst files. I have tried removing them and starting with out
them but that did not solve the problem. It locks even when clicking on
tasks. Not sure how to resolve it.

5.Hanging and lock ups

Running Office 2003 sp2 and having problems with Outlook 2003
Locks up randomly when I write, receive, read, delete, or sent e-mails.
Like this morning. I had 3 lock-ups, one that required a re-boot of the
machine, in 17 minutes. But now I have been working for 20 minutes without
problems. Sometimes, I will minimize it, and forget about it, and in an hour
I will switch to it, and it will have crashed, and I didn even realize.
