  • 1. Sharing BCM across a LAN.
I have several Office 2003 Pro BCM XP SP2 systems that are running. I want to share the databases across my LAN. The LAN uses static IPs. When I try to find a Computer by name from the Business Tools Create or Share Option page the connection is refused with a general reference to the request not being allowed. I have checked several things: o No firewalls are active on the desktops. o The databases are setup for sharing by BCM. o The users are setup as valid users on the Remote systems. o The SQL Configuration Manager and Surface Area settings are correct for the Instances and the SQL browser. When I added BCM there were exisiting instances on the SQL servers on the PCs. These support another Business app. I suspect the issue may be there somewhere. Any ides, tips, pointers, URLs. Thanks. -- Correct Problem Definition is 50% of the Solution ...
  • 2. Linking Imported Contacts to Accounts - which method?
I know BCM 2007 does not support contact->account linking when using flat files, so I gather there are 2 workarounds: 1) Create a .bcm XML formatted input file. I see this file uses GUID linking - if I create one, how should I assign the GUID? Can I just make up a unique 32 char hex id, or do I need a specific algorithm? 2) Import contacts and accounts separately then link them in the db via SQL. Can anyone supply sample SQL for this, or point me to a reference? Thanks!
  • 3. Outlook BCM Reports don't work
I've installed BCM & the Update but now none of the business reports work anymore. It just says " the report could not be generated. Please try again" Any ideas why or how to solve this?? I have information in all areas where I am requesting a report so it should work...

  • 5. BCM dosn't let outlook 2003 pro open

Error 'Database msdb cannot be opened' when backing up BCM

I received this error when attempting to backup. The message continues 'It
has been marked SUSPECT by recovery.' Then a lot of techno babble about SQL
that I don't understand. I also says that the backup/restore was still
successful, but it wasn't. I tried to restore the previous backup, but to no
avail. I'm lost on how to proceed, can anyone help? By the way, the link to
'Terms of Use' is not working.

Tom,

Why are you faced with this situation? Is BCM currently working?

If BCM is working and the backup process is not working, it suggests a
corruption. I'd connect to the SQL instance and troubleshoot it from there.
This is likely to be technobabble to you so I'll skip the details.

What is the exact SQL error message?

Leonid
Thank you for responding.
I got the error doing a routine backup through Database Tools/ Manage
Database/ Backup database' which I have done often before without incident.
There is no error number, but the message reads:
"'Database msdb cannot be opened. It has been marked SUSPECT by recovery.
See the SQL Server errorlog for more information. Coulld not insert a backup
or restore history/detail record in the msdb database. This may indicate a
problem with the msdb database. The backup/restore operation was still
successful."
There is then some % processed information and statistics.
Note that the backup was not successful, at least I cannot see the sbb file
it in the selected location. Also I tried to restore a previous backup but
got a similar error. BCM appears to be working fine. I found the SQL log,
which I don't really understand, but it says it placed a backup in a file
location, but the location seems empty.
I can send you a screenshot of the error and a file of the log if it would
help
Regards
Tom

I added an Exchange account to a profile not being aware that this user had
BCM. I setup a second profile (support article 829748) and tried to open the

Do you want to change the database configuration?

I haven't changed anything as far as I know...what do I do?
