Scheduling calls

  • 1. BCM with multiple mailboxes
Has anyone run BCM when they have multiple mailboxes open (individual and department)? We recently installed BCM and found that all of our rules and out of offices disappeared and had to be recreated. We are running BCM update, XP SP2, Office Pro 2003 with Outlook 2003 SP1 in cached mode (both mailboxes), on an Exchange server Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Any way to make all the Microsoft Office accounting data available offline? Thanks, Ryan
  • 3. Uninstalling BCM 2007
Having experienced major issues with this product we have decided not to pursue our interest in it. (Reporting inflexibility; not a true contact Management system; huge memory requirements, etc, etc). We went to the Microsoft support web site and reviewed the instructions for uninstalling, which seemed simple enough. Got to Control Panel - add or remove programs and choose Business Contact Manager 2007 and then select Remove. This seemed to work but it said it failed to remove SQL Express 2005. That is no longer listed as an available program in the Control Panel add or remove program list - how do we get rid of it as it is still showing in Task Manager as taking up valuable memory resource.
  • 4. BCM - The information store could not be opened
OK I'll try again - there are two other unresolved threads by other authors stretching back several months on this exact same issue. I first had a problem reading (i.e. opening) the Business Contacts so I restored an earlier backup database. Now I get a message during Outlook startup stating in the title bar "Business Contact Manager" and the text portion of the warning box "The information store could not be opened." Further troubleshooting has involved a reinstallation of the BCM component via Add/Remove by using my SBA2006 media. It isn't working and any help would be welcomed. ...and yes the MSSMALLBIZ SQL instance is running.
  • 5. Idenitifying Unlinked Emails
Is there anyway that I can identify or report on outlook emails that are not linked to a business contact. I have auto emailing on but sometimes I receive emails from paypal on behalf of someone and they do not automatically link. I also recive emails from new contacts where there is no contact business contact present and it is impossible, due to time contraints and the fact that I have 3 people all using BCM, to set up a new business contact for each new contact. I am finding that I have to open up each email to see if it is linked. This is obviously very time consuming.

Scheduling calls

I am trying to schedule calls and call back time from within Outlook Business
Contact manager. I don't see a date and time field under eithe the General
or Details field. Using the Flag button, I have scheduled a call at a
certain time and date however the time and date do not show up under the
callback field. Does anyone know where I can find instructions or a manual
which will allow us to use this product in a productive way?

Solomon, why don't you just use Tasks, you can schedule a time for it
to remind you to do something, then make the call then. Once you have
made the call, then use the phone note option to write a summary of the

I appreciate your response and certainly think it's a good workaround. I
still think there are some things missing here. Have you seen a detailed
copy of a manual or guide to the product in printed form?

I agree they should look at adding a phone call reminder, most other
CRM type apps have this.

There are lots of on-line namuals for BCM at
 http://www.**--****.com/ , but
I'm not aware of any paper manuals.

Using Tasks to schedule calls is not a work around. A phone call reminder is
simply 1 specific type of task and Outlook lets you use the generic Task item
form for ANY type of task reminder (including phone calls) for a given day.
If the Task you need reminding to do is "Time-Specific" within a given day it
is called an Appointment and is put on the Calendar to be done at that
specific time. This is the main difference between the fields on the
Appointment form vs. the Task form. These items are almost identical except
for this "time-specific-within-the-day" distinction. BCM is designed as an
add-in for Outlook. Using BCM in a productive way relies upon a good
understanding of the basic intended design of each Outlook item and how they
all work together. This program is different than an application such as ACT!
You can do the same things but the software is designed differently.

Some prefer Fords and some prefer Chevys.

I appreciate your taking the time to explain using tasks & appointments
while pointing out the differences. Since you seem to be pretty knowledgable
about this product, perhaps you can explain where I can find the date and/or
time entry point for "Callback as found on the [By Category] current view

As for your pointing out that some people like fords and some people like
chevys, both are drivable by any licensed driver. Software design should
strive to deliver as much while still being able to do the job. The point of
a good software design especially in a contact management is to help people
to do their job in a more intuitiive and efficient manner. I use contact
management software every day as a tool. I am hoping that one of the savy
software designers of this product will help and even make changes if enough
of users like myself make requests.
