  • 1. Outlook Error causing shutdown
I am using Outlook 2000 here at work and have been encountering a strange error message. I am able to run Outlook and get to my Inbox, but when I click on a specific email to read it pops up with the following error message and then shuts down. The error message reads: "OUTLOOK.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You need to restart the program. An error log has been created." I tried searching for the error log, but had 0 luck finding anything that was readable. I know the error message is pretty generic and does not indicate what might be the problem. This computer was infected with a large amount of spyware, which is when the problem arised, but since then the spyware has been removed and Outlook worked properly. But after using it only once and shutting it down and reopening, it began to give me the error message again. I am lost to what I need to do next and would appreciate any help anyone can give me. Thanks for taking the time to help -J
  • 2. Outlook 2000 with Windows XP
Can someone please help? We have laptops that are running Windows XP SP1 with Office 2000 SP3. We are having performance issues with Outlook 2000. When working from dialup or dsl, Outlook sometimes hangs for like 5 or more minutes while opening an email or switching between emails. Emails that are 2k in size are even slow. It works fine when working on our Lan network. We don't have this problem when running Windows 2000 with Outlook 98. Is there a fix out there? Thanks, Richard
  • 3. Where does Outlook store messages
My computer recently crashed, but just before it went completely down, a coworker saved my entire hard drive to usb external hard drive. When he finished fixing my computer and I reinstalled Office, none of my email messages are able to be found, even when I open Outlook from my file of old stuff he had saved. Can you give me an idea where Outlook stored those old messages? Any help would be SO SO much appreciated!!
  • 4. Meeting responses
My VP sent a meeting request to 5 attendee's. He is using Outlook 2002 and when the responses came back 2 were in his Inbox and 3 went to his Deleted Items. I have: 1) Verified under Tools->Options->E-mail options->Meeting responses sent to you without comments are tabluated...then deleted without appearing in your Inbox. 2) Confirmed that No rules are in place to move this mail. What could cause this mail to be re-directed to his Deleted Items folder other than him. Thanks, Vince

Outlook 2002 Send and Receive Operation Failed

Postby David Frid » Mon, 03 Nov 2003 02:36:35 GMT

I have OL2002, and when I press send/receive, I get the
message "operation failed" and all I can to is close the
little popup window. There is no other error message.
Please help.

What types of accounts do you have installed? If you Test Account Settings,
what is the report on the errors tab? Does your ISP require that you
authenticate before sending? If you remove and reinstall your mail
account(s), does the message still appear? What Microsoft Knowledge Base
Articles have you already researched and tried?

Post all replies to the group to keep the discussion intact. Due to the
Swen virus, all e-mails sent to my actual account will be deleted w/out
reading.

I rebooted and it works fine--I guess I should have tried
this first, maybe I have put too much faith in XP
thanks

I have the same error as David and this is what happens
with me: When I test the account settings, no errors are
shown, the ISP doesn't require authentication before
sending, I have removed and reinstalled outlook and the
mail account and the message still appears. I looked
through the knowledge base but found none that suited this
specific problem. The OS is windows 2000.

I couldn’t find the answer to David’s problem so I posted
this response.

Thanks

The only other thing I can think of to try is to exit Outlook, delete the
file "outcmd.dat", and restart Outlook. You can find the file in your
"\Documents and Settings\<your logon name>\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook" directory. If that doesn't work, I'm stumped...

1.Outlook 2002 - Send/Receive "The operation failed"?

Just got Outlook 2002 as an included program with my HP iPaq 2215.

I've set it up and used it frequently. But for the second time now, it is
refusing to do anything when you hit "Send/Receive". It pops up a rather
cryptic one line error message "The operation failed.". I can't figure out
how to clear this out and how to actually get it to work...the last time, I
reinstalled Outlook off of the HP CD. It worked fine, up until now.

I have followed an article in the MS Knowledge Base that deals with this,
and deleted and added a new profile, but it doesn't seem to work. And I
have no idea why...

Mike

2.Send/receive, operation failed message outlook 2002

Hi, I am receiving a message stating operation failed,
with my 0utlook 2002 pro. When I go to tools,
send/receive, and click on my account, I can send and
recieve, but I cannot do it from clicking on the
send/receive on the toolbar, and the auto send/receive
does not work.

My email settings are set up correctly, as I can receive
my test emails. I tried repairing and
uninstall/reinstalling outlook, but it did not fix it.

Thanks!

3.Outlook 2002 "The operation Failed" when clicking Send/Receive

I have Outlook 2002, when I click SEND/RECEIVE, I get the error message "The
Operation Failed". No error numbers are listed, that is the exact and
complete message. I have looked on the Microsoft website and nothing there
was helpful. I tried deleting the email account and adding it, I also
uninstalled Outlook and reinstalled it. I can 'Test' my account settings
and it passes, but I never receive the test email. I can compose an email
and click 'Send' and that works fine. It is not an ISP problem as Outlook
Express works fine.

So I can send email, but cannot receive it.

Thanks for any suggestions!

Doug

4.Outlook 2002 SP2 "operation failed" send receive

Outlook 2002 SP2 with Windows XP Professional worked for
years - no problem - now on 2 occasions
cannot "send/receive" -- popup box says "operation
failed" no other message and no helpful articles on
Microsoft knowledge base site (except to create a new
profile which does not work since other files are not
transerred over so it is like starting with a blank page -
- not acceptable!). Basically, the send receive settings
are inoperable -- when I go to check send receive groups
nothing comes up. I can test email settings and they
work fine. I am very annoyed since I have maintained
files in Outlook folders for years and like the central
location for calendar, files, notes, etc. I teach online
so this is an urgent problem that needs to be resolved
once and for all. I have the Outlook Backup software
recommeded as an "add on" by Microsoft and also use
Norton Systemworks and Norton Internet Security.

5."Operation Failed" in Outlook 2002 on Send/Receive

Our company has 30+ machines still running Office XP (the other 150 or so
are running various newer versions, and do not exhibit this behaviour), and
about half of them started displaying the "Operation Failed" dialog box
whenever a Send/Receive is initiated. This does NOT apply to the initial
Send/Receive operation that occurs when Outlook starts.

The machines running Outlook XP that do NOT have this issue are the ones
upon which, a few weeks ago, our technician turned off automatic updates,
and forgot to re-enable them, so I'm fairly certain it's one of the myriad
updates released in the last three weeks causing the problem... any clue as
to which one this may be? - TIA
