In the inbox when I have an email highlighted, I get a "This item cannot be displayed in the preview pane. Open the item to read its contents." When I double click to open the email, I get, "Can't open this item. Out of memory or system resources. Close some windows or programs and try again." I tried reopeing Outlook and rebooting the computer. Has someone seen this before. I tried the detect and repair, and that did not help. This all happend when I installed Mircosoft FAX. I don't know if this caused the issue or not, but it happend the same time.
  • 2. Posted this several times, Could someone please help??
Hi, I have been receiving an intermitted error message when I open up an email within Outlook 2000. At the time when I receive this message I do not have many windows open. This is the Error I get: Can't open this item. The text formatting command is not available. It may not be installed correctly. Please reinstall Outlook. Out of memory or resources. Please close all windows. My computer is running Outlook 2000 and it has the current updates installed on it. I have boosted the paging files. In the International Options under Mail format I changed both the send this encoding for outgoing messages and the send this encoding for unmarked received messages options from User Defined to Western European (ISO) or Western European (Windows). I then made Microsoft Word be my email editor as well as I deleted the frmcache.dat file. Nothing has worked. Do you have any suggestions?

Outlook 2000 text not visible in Outlook 2003

I have been receiving and sending e-mail using Windows 2000 Outlook. Now, of
course, I want to move to my new Windows XP and MS Office Professional
Edition 2003 Outlook on my new laptop. I copied all my e-mail from W2K
Outlook to .msg files in normal folders, to back them up. When I
double-click them in W2K,l they open in normal-looking Outlook-type message
windows and display all their contents. I moved them all to my new laptop,
but now the files thate in HTML format work fine but the files (from me)
that are not seem to have lost their text. They still have their
attachments, though, which are perfectly usable. I tried Windows XP Outlook
help and fiddled with the Tools | Options setup but to no avail. Opening the
.msg files with my favorite program editor (SlickEdit) shows the files do
contain the message text it just that XP Outlook (at least in its default
setup) doesn display the text.

That is not the way one migrates Outlook data.
Simply migrate your entire Outlook data file. Exporting is just a good way
to lose data, as you've now discovered.
Read the instructions:

1.User defined fields from Outlook 2000 not visible in Outlook 2003

I recently upgraded from Office 2000 to Office 2003.

In 2000 I had set up a number of user defined fields. When I look under the
"All fields" tab for any particular contact in Outlook 2003 theses fields are
visible under an option called "user-defined fields in this item".
However, when I try to show these fields in any other type of customized
view, I don get the option to show fields under "user-defined fields in
this item", I can only select user-defined fields from subset called
€ser-defined fields in folderwhich shows no user-defined fields.
Is this a known upgrade problem?
How can I view my previously set up user defined fields?

2.Text not visible in cell only in Formula Bar (excel 2003)

I opened my spread sheet this morning, and noticed that some text was
missing. I clicked on the cell and found the text shows in the formual bar
but not in cell. I reformatted cell, changed font color to black, changed
cell color to no avail. I then retyped info into cell and it showed until I
left the cell than disappeared. I clicked again on cell and saw text in the
formula bar but it is not visible in cell?

3.User defined fields from Outlook 2000 not visible in Outlook 2

Dai,
I have exactly the same problem - I created a user defined field called
"Christmas Cards", then upgraded to Outlook 2003 and now I can't use the
data. It appears under the 'All fields' tab as 'user defined in item' but
nowhere else!
How did you solve it?
Cheers,
Charlie

4.User Form in Outlook 2000 not visible in Outlook 2008

I created a custom form with User Fields 2-9 in my Outlook 2000. This is so
"extra" information will display in my Palm OS on my smart phone. This
resides on my desktop PC.

I just upgraded to Outlook 2007 on a laptop and copied over my contacts.pst.
he contacts populated but he custom form is not visible but the data in User
Fields 2-9 is visible on the all fields page.

How do I see the form in 2007?

When I open the template in desgin mode I can see my extra tab but not in
the normal view.

Thanks in advance.

5.Outlook Message Text Not Visible

Text is not visible in messages received from co-worker
using Eudora. Signature, which uses fancy font, is
visible.

Text is "there somewhere" as it is visible when the message
is previewed.

I understand that other recipients (Outlook 2000 users) of
the messages that they experience the same problem.
