Due to a problem with our Exchange server, all users' mail boxes have been deleted and new mail boxes have been created. Some users have backups of old Outlook.ost files, but they can't restore them just because these files refer to their old boxes. Is it possible to bypass the lock and to restore old data? Thanks a lot for your answers!

Hi, I have a small buisness with 5 computers I'd like to connect together with outlook so we can share the calendar, notes, tasks... I tried to install IIS on my server and configure an e-mail server but without any results. I'd like to know how to proceed, maybe a tutorial or something. The best way I've figured is with MS Exchange, something I don't know about =) Thanks for any help, Max.
  • 4. Outlook Sync question
Here is what we are trying to do. We have an exchange server. We have people with laptop pc's running outlook. Out office manager keeps track of telephone numbers and appointments. Al this information is online when the user logs in to the exchange server. We want to be able to have our laptop people log in and sync all files and folders in outlook with our exchange server. In other words all contact and appointments would be available off line to them in field. Then I would suspect that when they come back in they could do a re-sync and all e-mail that they were going to send along with any appointments would then be synced with our in house exchange server. Is this possible? It would be nice to have the information on these laptops rather than carrying around a handful of paper with phone numbers and appointments on it.

e-mail, Excel, MS Outlook - trouble (?)

Postby marjusz » Tue, 01 Jul 2003 16:21:18 GMT

Hello!
I am the user of Microsost Outlook and Windows 2000. I have this sheet
done in Excel and the following fragment of the code in it.

    Set olApp1 = CreateObject("Outlook.Application")
    With olApp1.CreateItem(0)
        .to = " XXXX@XXXXX.COM "
        .body = “anything”
        .ReadReceiptRequested = False
        .Send
    End With
    Set olApp1 = Nothing

It allows me to send e-mail automatically. But when I try to run this
code the window with the following message shows.
"This programme is trying to send e-mail automatically. Do you want to
allow it? If it’s unexpected, it could be caused by the virus
and you should press NO key.
Finally, if I still want to send that “hidden” e-mail I
need to press YES key. How shall I include this protection to send
e-mails automatically? I know it’s possible because this
programme works perfectly well on other computers... unfortunately, I
can’t find the reason.

Good luck with my question!

4.Mail merge hang, MS Word 2000 mail merge to MS Excel

A few days ago, MS Word 2000 stopped mail merging documents. The
symptom is as follows: When MS Excel is invoked to read the data
source, MS Word hangs saying either "Initiating DDE connection to
Microsoft Excel" or "Starting Microsoft Excel" on the status line. One
can replicate this by generating a new spreadsheet (test.xls)
containing any nine numbers in a square, saving it, starting a new MS
Word document, selecting Mail Merge, and selecting test.xls as the
data source. After about 2 hours (!) the box asking whether I'd like
to select the entire worksheet as a source comes up. This used to work
immediately. The only thing I installed between the two instances was
a minor HP printer driver update. Web reports suggest it fails
randomly. If "Select merge source" is selected (to avoid DDE), I can
import successfully using the converter. ODBC fails silently. However,
it appears to be impossible to load existing saved documents with
merge sources as I can't select the converter.

I have once or twice got "Word could not re-establish a DDE connection
to Microsoft Excel to complete the current task."

I am running Word 2000 Standard SP-3 fully patched on XP fully
patched.

To correct this I have tried the following (gleaned from the web):
1. Repairing the existing installation, and rerunning with "/
regserver"
2. Removing the entire Office installation, rebooting, reinstalling,
loading all service packs, rebooting.
3. Renaming registry keys so these get reinstalled, renaming all
instances of normal.dot, removing contents of word and excel start up
directories.
4. Ensuring "ignore other applications" is not set to "on" in Excel
5. Replicated with new documents (see above) to check it's not
corrupted documents. Loaded documents that hang on this machine on
another machine running seemingly identical software, where they work
perfectly.
6. Searched MS knowledge base.
7. Ensured no files in My Documents are set to "read only" (tip from
the web).

Putting a simple DDE field to call Excel into Word also hangs it. I
think the problem may be that DDE from Word has ceased working
entirely.

Any ideas?

5.Trouble Opening E-mails in MS-Outlook

I have Windows XP Home and Office Standard.
I have a DSL provider (Comcast) and would like to get my
e-mails in Microsoft Outlook. I can send e-mails from
Outlook.

Comcast gave me these settings:

Incoming server - mail.comcast.net, outgoing -
smtp.comcast.net, account name - tripletts2 w/o
@comcast.net.

In Outlook I did the following:

Change Your Server Connection Method
Tools, E-mail Accounts, View or change existing e-mail
accounts, Next, Select the account [there were 2 -
mail.comcast.net & my name - I tried doing this 2 times -
using each, without success], Change, More Settings,
Connection, Connect using my local area network (LAN),
Test Settings [all were w/green check marks, confirmation
e-mail appeared in my Comcast messages], Close, Next,
Finish.

My e-mails don't appear in the Outlook inbox. Does anyone
know what I am doing wrong?

Thanks in advance.
