I'm running Outlook 97 and when I attempt to Compact Files, the system stops and returns a 'Not Responding' error. I need to create a rule that after I have closed (read) the email from my
Inbox, the rule moves the email to a specify folder. Thanks for any help.

The Rules Wizard can't automatically move items after reading (only on
sending & receiving).

Vince,

Thanks for your prompt reply and clarification on the rules wizard. Is it
possible to move a mail from the Inbox to a folder via a macro?

Quite possibly but I'm not conversant in Outlook coding (yet... I'm knee
deep in other coding stuff). Check out Sue Mosher's site for oodles of
Outlook coding 'stuff':

2.False new mail indicator when using rules flagging mail read

Using Microsoft Office 2003 -- Outlook

Anyone ever notice how the new mail systray indicator will stay active for
email received that has a rule to automatically mark it read and delete it?
While I suppose I could understand someone reasoning that they actually like
this feature, I do not. Too bad there's not an implemantation to allow user
control over this or in the very least a way to communicate this design [bug]
feature back to the kool-aid stand. >:-(

3.Mail rules setting "mark as read" and new mail icon

In OE6 I've got a mail rule for spam (marked by K9) that
just moves the mail to a folder and marks it as read.
Whenever I receive spam I still get the new mail icon
popping up in the system tray, even though the mail rule
has marked it as read. To get rid of the icon I have to
actually read an old mail. This is making the new mail
icon completely useless as I receive about three times as
much spam as real mail.

Similarly, if I receive a mail on one account and read it
before OE has finished downloading from the other
accounts, then I still get the new mail icon despite the
fact I've already read the new mail.

4.Can the E-mail Rules recgonize read receipt messages

My employeer requires I have "Request a Read Receipt" on
for every e-mail message thet we send. I'm in support and
I currently send a couple of hundred messages a day.
(There are 34 of us in this gruop and 6 groups in the
department.) I would like a way to simply have every one
of those returned read receipts go to a read receipt
folder so I wouldn't have to look at all of them and I
could mark them all as read once a day.

I could not see haw to set up a rull that would do this
with the rules wizard. Does anybody have a clue how to do
this? Can it be done?
