  • 2. My IT dept sucks, now my security file is gone!
OK, I created a database in Access 2000 w/security. My cpu had a virus. My IT dept ensured me that "ALL" files will be backed up. Silly me for believing. Now my database is there and the security file is gone. Of course that means, I do not have the necessary permissions. I don't have the backup of the security file. I created the security file over a year ago and no longer have the workgroup information (name, id, etc.). Can anyone help with my problem? Thanks a lot

Problem with Access 2003 User Security DB opening with Access 2007

Postby RG9ubmE » Wed, 28 Apr 2010 05:55:01 GMT

I have a copy of a shared Access 2003 database (.mdb) which I created and
have used since 2000 with group/user level security file (system.mdb). I
have recently since moved to another company and want to use the database at
this office.

Every time I try to open it, I get the error message "You do not have the
necessary permissions to use the :\NameOfDatabase.mdb object. Have your
system administrator or the person who created this object establish the
appropriate permissions for you."

I am a little more confused now that I have read a couple of these posts
that refer to a "System.mdw" file. I believe mine has always been

How can I open this database?
I would really appreciate assistance since I spent ~ 10 years refining this
database and would love to be able to use it again.

You need to have the original System.mdw file (the security file, which can
have other names, but generally has the .mdw extension) from the computer
where the database was previously stored. If it was that easy to move a
database around, it wouldn't be very secure, would it? You could search for
someone one the Internet to crack your security, and there probably are
some, but without the file, it may be expensive.

2.Access 97 Upgraded to Access 2007 User level security problem

I have a customer who was running an application in Access 97 which I then
upgraded to Access 2007 in January. When I upgraded it, I didn't realize
user level security was applied to the database. I guess there have been
problems with some of the functionality of the database for some time, but
they didn't make me aware of it until now. When investigating the problem,
I've found that some of the objects have a different owner and the current
user "admin" has no permissions on those objects. How can I change the owner
of those objects? I tried opening the old access 97 database to see who the
owner of the objects were, but they were all set to admin so I'm not sure
what the problem is.

3.DB from Access 2003 woud not open in Access 2007 for layoutchanges

I have a Access DB developed in Access 2003. If I try to open the DB in VB
from Access 2007, to make changes to it, I get the error "Project locked"
"Project can not be opened". Forms can not be opened to change the layout.

In Access 2003 it opens without any problems and there is no password on it.

Any help ?

Thanks in advance

4.Upgrading DB from access 2003 to access 2007 problem

I have several DB I would like to upgrade to the access 2007 version.
Everytime I try I get the following error. "You attempted to open a database
that is already opened exclusively by user 'Admin' on machine 'xxxxx'. Try
again with the database is available"

Any ideas

5.Access 2003 DB to Access 2007 DB Issue

It ran fine under MS Access 2003, but now I using MS Access 2007 and I
having a bit of a problem getting it to initially load. When I launch Access
and select the acronym database (db1.mdb), I getting the following error

our Microsoft Office Access database or project contains a missing or
broken reference to the file ao2535.tlbversion 3.5. * To ensure that
your database or project works properly, you must fix this reference.

At the bottom of that error message window, there is a how Helpbutton,
and an Kbutton. how Helpprovides me little help because I am not an
Access programmer. When I click on the Kbutton, I get the same error
message. After I click Ka total of 8 times (every time I clicked on the
OK button, I would get the same error message), the message does not appear
anymore and the acronym database is loaded and presented for use. The
work-around always works, but its becoming really bothersome.

How do I go about correcting the reference to ao2535.tbl version 3.5and
where is the fix made?
