Word 2003 unexpectedly quits to desktop when I click preview, print, or page setup. It does not give an error message. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Office 2003 Basic as well as my printer and its drivers. I can print and preview without any problem in Excel, but not in Word. Any ideas? I read the issue reagrding Normal.dot. I've noticed that the Normal.dot file is displayed as ~$Normal.dot. I'm not sure if that's how it should appear. Renaming the file to Normal.dot gives an error message "Unable to read form source". Son't know if that's related to the problem.

Hello, I am trying to install MO Home and Student 2007. For some reason, my computer is not letting me to do so. I suspect that it might be due to the previous Microsoft office system (trial version) already installed on my computer. I have tried unstalling the current trial version of MO from my computer but that didn't work for some reason. by the way, conversion thing didn't work either. Perhaps it is because my production key is for Home and Student edition whereas whatever the version of MO currently on my computer, is Not. It just says my production key is not valid.-it can't be! Anyhow for some reason, I cannot install MO Home and Student 2007 on my computer. I download the MO Home and Student 2007 and go through installing process up to the point: I get my production key confirmed and move on to agreeing with the license terms and then clicked on "install now" button which give me a horizontal bar with msg below "Installing Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007..." but the wierd thing is the bar does not grow at all. It's stuck at the stage where nothing is happening and finally i get an error msg saying "Microsoft Office Home and Student encountered an error during setup" how do i solve this problem? Hi, My application uses word to create templates. Application adds Mail Merge toolbar temporarily while editing the templates. These templates are later used to create the documents with the merge fied values. The application gets the error related to Normal.dot sometimes. The errros says "Normal.dot is already in use by another user or application." It does not allow word to run properly. From the source code, it doesn't seem to corrupt the normal.dot templates because the Mail Merge ToolBar is added in the context of the active document instead of global template and the toolbar is added temporarily as shown in the following code, NewCommandBar = WordApplication.CommandBars.Add(Name:=CBR_NAME, Temporary:=True) When the document is closed , the application removes the commandbar from the Word application. The error stated above has occured quite frequently in some of the PCs. It is noteworthy that they dont' have any other add-ins in the word and the error has occured even when the word is solely used by our application. Uninstalling/Reinstalling Office hardly ever works because all the user settings and customisations are not replaced or updated. This is definitely a printer driver issue. Check on the Internet support site for the Printer Manufacturer and make sure that you have the latest driver and then delete and reinstall the printer. The file you are seeing is the temp file that is created when you open Word. It should be in the same folder as normal.dot: if you cannot see normal.dot, it is probably because the settings in Windows Explorer are set to hide System and Hidden files. It should have the current/date time stamp (from when you opened Word) and should close itself when you close Word (and Outlook). We have program code using OLE automation that creates a Word 97 style document and automatically prints the results. This has worked until we have started to update to Word 2003 on our desktops. Now, a table within the document does not print out but it is contained within the document and is visible when we do a print preview. The Options Compatibility shows as 'Word 97'. If we remove the sub option 'Use Word 2002 table style rules', the print out shows the missing table. How can we programatically set the sub option off?
