I often use document properties for title, subject, etc. as well as some custom properties. I then use the properties within the document, thus allowing a central place to make changes. The Status document property seems like a good place to include the document revision, although I can't seem to access it as a field, so I can't use it within the document. Does anyone know how I might be able to use the Status document property within the document? I use MS Word 2007, but often save as 2003 format for interchange with others.

Hi. I run vista and when I browse to make word 2007 the default application to open.doc files with, it does not then appear in the available list of programmes once I have clicked on it. Forums seem to suggest eding registery files, without telling me the steps to do this. So i have to save all attachments and then open from Word. Thanks for your time.

I have a new hard drive, and have installed Office 2003 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher). They all seem to be working fine except for Word. I open it and get an error that says something like Microsoft Word experienced an error and needs to close. I have ran the repair/reinstall function, but even though the message said it repaired succesfully, word is still not working. I have downloaded the Compatibility pack for 2007 thinking that might help -- but it still is not working. Please Help! I need Word!! -- TX Jo

Creating template with font not recognised by other PC's

Postby U2t5 » Thu, 12 Feb 2004 07:26:08 GMT

Hi, hope someone can help me

I need to create a template with Gill Sans as a font. Problem is, the people I want to use the template, do not have Gill Sans loaded on their PC's. So all unrecognised font automatically turns to their default font (Arial)

Is there some way I can create this template with the Gill Sans font, and have it appear (and print) as Gill Sans. The text that they input onto the template can remain as Arial, it's just the text I create on the template I want as Gill Sans

Someone suggested maybe as a graphic???? ( I don't know how to do this) But the users of the template still need to be able to type on the template

Thank yo
Sky

The only good solution is to distribute the font files along with the
template (copyright issues notwithstanding). You could use inserted graphics
provided you don't need your users to edit the Gill Sans text: OK if it's
just a small amount of text like a letterhead -- although mixing typefaces
like Gill Sans and Arial is a typographic no-no.

But the users of the template still need to be able to type on the template.

You could embed the font (if its license permits embedding), but that will
drastically inflate the file size.

Thank you to Jezebel and Suzanne so much, you have been a great help. I think I will use the Inserted graphics option as it is only a samll amount of text, like you said.

Cheers!

2.Word files created from templates craching PC's

I am having trouble with users opening a Word 2000
document and crashing their machines. The problem goes
like this

Users will create a Word document from an database (DB)
application using a template built into DB application.
The user will then sent those documents to the recipient
across the various states and branches. This was working
perfectly ok for 2 years however we decided to move to
Active Directory with our organisation.

The first sign of trouble can be seen in Melbourne one
day after their domain has been transferred to a new
Windows 2000 AD structure from NT4 Domain. We have since
moved to Windows 2003 AD and have migrated users from an
NT4 Domain to a the Windows 2003 AD infrastructure and
domain

None of the computers in the new AD domain can open the
documents, their PC's simply crash or hang. This only
happenes when a user is moved to the new AD domain
infrastructure and the domain changed on their computer.
This does not happen on other computers that remain on
the NT4 Domain.

If users send the Word document to an email account
outside the AD infrastructure, it will open fine. I can
even open the attachment on my home computer which is not
connected to either the NT4 or AD domains.

When doing some testing, we found out that it actually
not crashing the computer, it is just taking an awfully
long time to open document, lets say 25 - 30 minutes, and
it may eventually open the document.

The way these Template is setup is simply using an ODBC
connection from Oracle to MSWord 2000. After a user
creates the document, they will save it as a standalone
Word 2000 document which is independent from any macro or
connection to the database app - it is like copying and
pasting the text out from one document to a new fresh
one. For an unknown reason, it is trying to connect to
the data source when open within Word in the new AD
domain only and not any other domain.

I know this is a long winded explanation but I am hoping
that someone else may have seen this phenomena with
documents created this way.

Any help would be appreciated.

3.Solved: DisplayAsIcon :=False works on some PCs but not others

I was using Access 2003 to insert an inline shape (of a jpeg) into a Word
document. It worked on my development machine, which also has Office 2000 and
therefore Microsoft Photo Editor. My clients had installed Office 2003
without keeping Office 2000, and that uninstalled Microsoft Photo Editor,
which Microsoft has deprecated.

However, Microsoft Photo Editor is the OLE Server for JPEGs. If another one
is supposed to be available, I haven't been able to discover that. At any
rate, when you have Microsoft Photo Editor installed, then when Access
inserts a JPEG into a Word document, Word recognizes the object type and
therefore it appears as a JPEG image in the document.

But without Microsoft Photo Editor, Word does not recognize the JPEG, and
therefore inserts it as a "Package Object", which appears as an icon. You can
still doubleclick the icon to see the JPEG, but that isn't very useful for
printed reports.

4.DisplayAsIcon :=False works on some PCs but not others

The PCs all run Word 2003 SP3. I don't think this should be relevant, but the
PCs with problems have XP SP2, while the one that works is XP SP3.

The problem occurs when using Access to create a Word document and then
insert a document as follows:

         .InlineShapes.AddOLEObject DisplayAsIcon:=False, _
                                    Filename:=MyPath, _
                                    Range:=oRange

On the XP SP3 development machine, the document is inserted just fine. On
the XP SP2 user machines, no matter what I do, the document is inserted as an
icon.

Suggestions? (Except telling the users to upgrade -- they are at a client
site and not under my control.)

To get information from others in my office, I need to create a worksheet
