limit formatting to a selection of styles does not work

  • 1. How do I add automatic numbering to an existing document?
I have scanned and converted a document to word. I now want to format it so that I can add clauses between existing clauses while the document follows sync by automatically adjusting the numbers on the existing document. Looking forward to assistance.
  • 2. Maintain References but break up document
I'm working on a proposal that was originanlly created as a 170-page, 5-section document that I now need to break up into individual files for each section. I have 35 tables and 5 figures, all referenced in the text so that they automatically update when changed. Is there a way to make my 5 separate documents but maintain the referencing without having to redo them all? Thanks, Eloise
  • 3. Changes to duplicate documents in different folders
I want to save a document into several different folders. Is there a way I can make changes to one document and have the other duplicate documents be updated with the same changes automatically?
  • 4. Numbering in comment
For some reason, in the document I am editing with Track Changes, an automatic numbering turns on whenever I add a comment. I can delete it and enter the comment just fine, but that is annoying. I've not had this problem with hundreds of other documents. Thanks for any suggestions to eliminate this.
  • 5. Set the default outlining level display in Word 2007
When I switch to Outline view, the default shows all the lines of the text. I'd like by default to show only the Level 2 headers. Or Level 1, 2, and 3. This used to work in Word 2003, but I can't make it work in Word 2007.

I take it this is Word 2003? Can you describe the steps involved in both
the initial and follow-up process? Please provide a detailed example.

My question is similar to Bruce's, but for some reason my Word 2007 stopped

They are on the tool bar, but they aren't lit up when I

5.Styles & Formatting Task Pane Not Working?

I've created a macro that creates an outline (linked to
the built-in nine heading styles) and also adds some
other custom styles into the document. After I run the
macro and use any of the heading styles, my styles all
appear in the Styles & Formatting Task Pane, but the
option to "Select All" paragraphs containing the styles
is grayed out (and says "Not Currently Used").

I've tried removing the paragraph attached to that style
and adding it back into the document--but no matter what
I do, the Styles and Formatting Task Pane appears to be
unable to 'find' the style in the document! Also, the
Task Pane can't seem to 'find' any of my other styles in
the document either (these other styles have user-defined
names that are not the same as any built-in style names).

Any thoughts? Thanks!
