  • 1. Unwanted Background pattern
For some reason, when I open any Word document, I get a graph paper grid pattern in the background. If I go to Format->Background->No Fill, it goes away, but it shows up again each time I open a document. I'm using Office 2000, if that's any help.
  • 2. Find and remove parenthesis
Hello, I have years listed in a document as: (2007) and would like to remove all of the parenthesis surrounding the year. So, the year should then display as: 2007 There are possibly hundreds of these to change, so I'm looking for an easy way of doing this. I know I can have the Find and Replace dialog box find the open parenthesis, and replace it with nothing. Then, I can run through the same process for all closing parentheses. But, again, this could take a long time, as there may be hundreds of parentheses. There is other text within the document that is enclosed within parentheses, and I do not want it included in the find. I've also tried working with the wildcard option. I found the year surrounded by parens by typing: \(????\) However, I can't figure out what to put in the Replace field. I want to replace with just the numbers. I'm using Word 2007. Any suggestions? Thank you!

  • 4. TOC using styles - include only paragraph name in generated TOC
I want to be able to generate a table of contents using styles, but only have the paragraph heading appear in the TOC. Example: 1. Title of Paragraph. This would be the text of the paragraph, but I only want "Title of Paragraph" to show up in the TOC. The way I have been doing this is to put a return before the text of the paragraph starts and then hiding that paragraph mark, so I have to turn off my "show hide" button before generating the TOC. It takes a lot of extra steps to go through the document and insert the hidden paragraph. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

I lost the ability to have keystrokes repeat by pressing a key longer. Now I have to enter a key repeatedly. Does anyone know how to restore that feature?

Numbering with Bullets

Postby TGFuc2t5LXBvbw » Sat, 15 May 2004 05:06:02 GMT

Nearly every time I attempt to use numbered bullets, my screen freezes. I have to close Word and restart thus losing quite a lot of work, normal bullets don't seem to give the same problems. Is there anyone out there who can help me?

G'day "Lansky-poo" < XXXX@XXXXX.COM >,

You shold be using a style to hold the number formatting, and using
Simple Lists instead of Bullets (same dialog, different tab)

1.Numbering and Bullets in Office 2004?

I'm curious about Office 2004.

I've have too much 'stuff' floating around in my head, and on my
computer. At the moment, all the new Office 2004 'features' are just
adding to the confusion.

I'm sure it would not be a great marketing tool, and we all know that
MS is the best marketing company in the world. However, what I'd
really like to see them emphasizing is that they've fixed the problems
in the previous version. As we've already seen, this appears not to be
the case with imported graphics.

My quesion is: Does anyone have experience yet with the
bullets/numbering/outing numbering options in Word 2004?

I have spent hours and hours and hours on this in the past. I've read
all the MVP tutorials. I KNOW I'm supposed to only change numbers from
within styles, and I do know how to do that.

However, the underlying programming for these features (Word X, and
prior issues) remains an absolute, abominable, flaming disaster.

e.g. I've NEVER been able to custom design bulleted lists that stick.
I'll do a <paragraph indent> within my document and the bullet changes
to a different style. And sometimes it indents .25", others .50".

Then when I return to the dialogue box (via styles, or any other
route), I find that my 'selected' bullet style has moved to another of
the seven optional boxes. The headings I inserted have moved as well,
but then sometimes a second box will appear with the same headings.
So which one is which? If I ever de-select the box, there is NO way
to know which one is the correct one.

I could go on, and on, and on, and on, and on . . . . (Energizer
Bunny, anyone?)

Thanks for listening . . . Anyone have any good news on this topic?

2.can't type sentence after inserting number or bullets

I have a ACER Laptop purchased in Kuwait in 2005. Whenever I try to insert a
number or bullet using word it inserts from the toolbar however it then does
not allow me to type a sentence or word next to the number or bullet. The
indent numbering on the tool bar is also reflecting the numbers
backward......7 6 5 4 3 2 1 as well?
