Hi there, When I use Word 2007 TOC, and I want to edit an existing TOC layout, etc. It wont remember my settings. I go to References Table of Contents Insert Table of Contents Then I make my chnages here, such as changing the levels of the various styles and how they show up Then I select OK, the TOC is created.. I then decide I don't like the changes I made, or I need to include another style So I go to References Table of Contents Insert Table of Contents The changes I made are no where to be seen. I have to start over from scratch. What am I doing wrong, please? Thanks!

Turn off Word 2003 opening in Read Only by clicking on .doc

I want to open .doc documents in Word by double clicking on the file in
Windows Explorer, but they always open in Read Only. I am currently running
XP Home Edition 5.1 SP 2 with MS Word 2003 SP 2.

In XP the file properties are NOT set to Read Only nor is the file type
(.doc) association configured to open as Read Only.

If I open Word first then open the file, it is in edit mode. As well, the
security options in Word for the document(s) do NOT have Read Only
recommended checked off.

What have I missed?

Cheers,
Stephanie

In Word, Tools/Options/General/Uncheck Allow starting in Reading Layout.

Thanks Abs, but nope, still opens documents in Read Only.

Funny thing is, this only happens when I double click to open. If I use
Open With, no problemo.
