1.AutoFormat feature that can't be turned off
In Word 97, even if you want to use AutoFormat for just one feature, you cannot turn off the feature that turns dotted lines into a solid paragraph border. Even if you uncheck all the features in AutoFormat, and then run AutoFormat, it will still turn a dotted line into a solid border. So if you don't want dotted lines changed to solid, you can't use AutoFormat. This automatic line feature, judging from the newsgroups, has caused more hassle to more users that just about any thing else in Word. Why is Microsoft so attached to it that they won't let it be turned off? Couldn't they have had a simple built-in command that would enable the user to create a solid line when he wants to create it? What is this obsession MS has with tricking people with automatic features they don't even want? Larry
I've tried all the stuff I've read in help files and online to turn off autoformatting, but it hasn't solved this problem. (Using Word 2004, v. 11.3.8) I have a recipe: 1 3 1 to 4 pound boneless chuck roast 1 envelope dry onion soup mix, undiluted 1 can cream of mushroom soup, undiluted 1 cup of water in bottom of cooker Where each of the 1's is followed by a tab. If I try to add another space between lines, I get "2" at the beginning of that blank line. If I replace the tab with spaces, it's ok. What can turn off this part of autoformatting? Ed
3.How do I turn off autoformat for dates?
When typing a date in, i.e. 18 February 2009 - automatically an option comes up to add 2009-02-18 at the end. How do I turn this off?
4.Turn autoformat off for A. B. C.
At the end of a client letter, I want to type my name and title. Specifically: A. Marks Powers Vice President When I type my name at end of letter (i.e. A. Marks Powers), Word 2007 wants to autoformat so next line starts with B. I then have to change the B. autoformat and insert Vice President. I want to keep autoformat on for numbers and bullets but disable autoformat for A. B. C. D. bullets. Any work arounds for this issue...?
5.Turning off an autoformat feature
I must have changed a setting in Word XP. My laptop is automatically changing my entire document when I make small format changes to just a few words. The documents I'm working with are based on a template. Here is my dilemma... when I change a few words in the document to become Bold, it changes all of the document to become bolded. If I center a single line, it centers everything else. I copied the file to my desktop and I don't experience the same problem. I guess I changed a setting on the laptop and I can't find where to turn off the feature to save my life! Can someone point me in the right direction? Thanks!!! Todd
