When ever I try to copy some files from the hard drive to a external (zip, cd. floppy) I get the "Error Copying file or Folder (cyclic Redundancy check)." In som of the folders there are twenty or more files and the ones that I have a problem with are the ones with High Res photos in them?
  • 2. Entering apostrophe or quote marks causes error message.
I'm not at the computer where this happens, so I don't recall the exact error message, but when I enter apostrophe or quote marks (when I'm editing a Word document prepared by someone else), an error message pops up with something like "Size must be between -1.5 and 7 pts". The surrounding text is normal, like 10 or 12 pt. The only way I can get the apostrophe/quote is to use the "insert symbol" command. I'm guessing that when the document was originally drafted, the author must have some setting that causes it, but I don't know what that setting might be? Any suggestion? Thanks. -- Stan
  • 3. Edit and save Microsoft word documents from browser
We are working on an application that needs to read Microsoft Word document saved as Blobs in SQL server. These Word documents have to be displayed to the user in Internet-explorer browser. The user can edit these documents and click on the save button that needs to be provided in the browser. At that point the whole document needs to be saved back as a new Microsoft word document back into SQL-server. We are trying to figure out the best way to accomplish this task. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Word 2002 "File" menu disappeared

Postby ZmFsY28 » Sun, 18 Feb 2007 14:13:05 GMT

When I open Word 2002 from the Start button the file menu is missing. In the
usual upper left hand site for "File" is "Save As".

How do I get Word to return to its original default opening with the "File"
menu available once more?

Many users have reported losing commands from their menu bar. Try these
fixes (in order):

1. Open Tools | Customize. On the Toolbars tab, select Menu Bar and press
Reset.

2. If that doesn't work, switch to the Commands tab and select Built-in
Menus in the Categories list. In the Commands list, select the appropriate
menu and drag it to the menu bar.

3. If that doesn't work (or the problem recurs on restarting Word), see

1.Custom Menus and Menu Items Disappear in Word 2002/XP

Hi everyone--

My organization has created templates with custom menus and custom menu items. For example, we have a menu that says Styles. We also have a custom menu item we added to Word's standard Tool menu.

The problem is that these disappear when used in Word 2002, even if we re-create the template completely in Word 2002. The problem doesn't seem to happen with customizations to Normal.dot--only other templates have this problem. As a workaround, I created a custom *toolbar* but this workaround doesn't work for custom menu items added to standard Word menus, as in the example I gave above. Does anyone have any thoughts re this issue? Thanks!

2.MRU file list disappears after shutting exiting Word (2002)

Using Word 2002 on Windows XP (Pro). Every time I open Word, I go to my
Tools, Options, General and check the option to display the most recently
used file list, and put a number in there (default is 4). The MRU file list
works as long as I don't shut down Word. Upon exiting Word and restarting it
is reset back to MRU "off" under Tools, Options.

We have searched the registry for some "culprit" or reason for this to be
resetting back to off every time but so far come up with nothing.

Any ideas or solutions?

Thanks in advance!

3.Word 2002 has disappeared

Hello! I somehow managed to remove word from my computer when I was in
the "add/remove" panel. I contacted Gateway and together we installed,
and reinstalled Word. We turned the computer off, we restarted the
computer, we worked in safe mode. Nothing. On the "add/remove" panel
Word 2002 shows that it is there and installed BUT I cannot find it, or
open it up. I can access all my documents but I can only open them in
Word Pad or something like that. No Word. I contacted Microsoft which
was a nightmare...a miserable experience and made wish I never had a
computer to begin with but I digress...

Can anyone out there help me? I have a Gateway Lap top purchased 2003
(and most everything on the computer has never worked right except for
Word), and I am running XP Home...

Thanks.

4.Inserted pictures disappear in Word 2002 using XP

I'm using Word 2002 on XP. When I insert pictures they briefly show up, then
disappear. They're still there, I just can't see them. Every now and then
they come back for a second or so, then go away. Usually this is triggered by
a move of the mouse. The picture box is still there and if I print the page
it's there.

Any suggestions?

5.Highlights disappear after saving document in Word 2002

I am having a problem where I am editing RTF documents that were created by
someone else. For awhile I could highlight text, save the document and the
text would comeback highlighted when I opened the document again. Now, in the
same documents that still show some of the old highlighting, when I try and
highlight anything, the highlighting disappears when I save and reopen.
Running Word 2002 SP3. Any ideas? Thanks.
