Managing Links in MS Word documents - link checker?

  • 1. Word not printing page numbers
I have page numbers set for a document. However, when I preview the document or print it, the page numbers are not shown or printed. What preference item is control this and how can I get the pages to print with the page numbers? Thank you
I am using Word 2002. Each year I make a calendar using the wizard and in that calendar I add pictures using Insert ClipArt or copy and pasting from Microsoft Clipart. I have always been able to edit these, resize, rotate etc. They would appear with 9 small circles around the clipart. This year I get a solid black line with solid black squares around the clipart and can only resize the clipart. I cannot move or rotate at all. No change to software, clipart. I am at a loss as to how to fix this. -- Thanks, Pat

I've noticed that when you open a word file it automatically opens up the '' file. Is there a way to make a file point to a different '' file when it's opened? For example: if you open C:\test\word.doc it will open the in C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates Can this be changed so the file opens C:\temp\ ?

Managing Links in MS Word documents - link checker?

Postby TeamKaeru » Fri, 30 Mar 2007 23:18:10 GMT

I have the situation where I have to deal with many Word and PDF
documents on a website for reference. The problem is that the people
creating the Word documents aren't linking things correctly when they
create hyperlinks, thus creating bad links. The other part of the
problem is that many of the documents contain links that are very old
and no longer correct.

Is there any tool that will allow one to bulk process a directory full
of Word documents to check for the links that are inside them?

Either to check for bad links - like a search spider / link walker

Or to just list out the links that are created in each of the

Either of these options would be helpful.

Similar Threads: do i change manage css links to start of document

when i press control/home, instead of navigating to the start of my document,
a dialog box for Find and Replace (as in page number to go to, etc.) comes up

Left control/home says it is assigned to start of document, right
control/home says it is assigned to manage external csslinks, but the same F
& R box comes up for both. I don't know anything about managing css links,
and I don't use the F & R box.

Please tell me how to assign control/home (right AND left) to navigate to
the start of my document.

2.Managing Links between Excel and Word

Each month I create a number of Word reports which are full of tables and
charts linked in from Excel. Is there any easy way for me to copy the last
months base data into a new folder and have the links move to the new folder
ie without having to go into Change Source and manually edit each link?
Thanks in advance

4.Linking excel data to Word document so links survive file name change

If I am in the wrong forum to post this question please let me know.
My problem is related to linking data in an excel spreadsheet to a
Word docment in the same folder. Here is situation: each job has a
folder [job1 job2 job3 etc.], each job folder has at least 2 files a
spreadsheet and 1 report document. so in folder job1 there will be
job1.doc and job1.xls. I am trying to develope templates for these 2
files that will maintain the link. So when we start job4 we can create
a new folder (job4) and start new files (job4.xls and job4.doc) that
are linked. I have searched a lot and found some references to
relative paths vs absolute paths but i couldn't really understand
them. If anyone has had any experience or can direct me to where i
might get some more info it would be greatly appreciated Thanks in
