  • 1. Search Feature Freezes
    I have a 135-page document. I and other users are using Word 2007, but we save the doc as a Word 2003 file. We seem to be able to search for everything without problems, except for the three letters "fec" (for Forward Error Correction). This search causes the doc to freeze, and the search to generate endlessly but there are some oddities: - The search runs fine until the middle of page 18, then freezes. - If you stop the search at the last successful Find (at the top of page 18), then skip down to the end of page 27, you can continue the search without problems. (The doc is a collection of tables built from a template that been used many times, with no known differences in the content or structures in this section.) - When this section (pg 18 27) is removed, there are no problems. When this section is put into a new doc by itself, the search freezes. - The freeze only occurs when you search Down or All. When searching Up, there is no issue. - The freeze only occurs when searching for ec(small case). When searching for EC(upper case) with atch caseselected, there are no problems. I can certainly re-create the problematic text elsewhere and insert it into the original document. But in case we find another word that causes the same problem . . . any suggestions?

    I have misplaced one of the install disks to reinstall Office 2000 and was told they are not available anymore. So I am interested in 2007 but have heard that the interface has changed; but that there are add-ons to mimic to look more like the menus in 2000. I'd like to see if I can find a screen capture of what Office 2007 would look like with the particular add-on added please. -- ================= Charles

    Hello, The question is like in the subject... I'm using a photo editing program and would like to paste some text from Microsoft Word. The problem is that this photo editing program won't automatically adjust the width of each paragraph, I have to do it manually. So, I'd like to be able to specify the length of each line of text and then convert each line into a separate paragraph. I've tried various options in Word (Tables, Columns), but so far have not been able to find a solution. I'd appreciate any suggestions! Regards, Jack

Hi all

I have a document that i did not create and that I am editing.

I am not interested in spell-checking the whole document, but only the 
parts that I write.

1) I highlighted the whole text using CTRL-A

2) I selected UK English as the speeling language and checkmarked the 
"Do not spell check" box

3) Saved the doc

4) I put the cursor where I want to type and then uncheck the "Do not 
spell check". But nothing happens, no spell checking as you type.

What can I do?

I'm not sure I see the point of (2). You should instead *clear* the check 
box. The article Graham references may help.

3.Spell Checker 7 Grammar DOES NOT WORK IN OFFICE/WORD 2007 

In relation to the message below my spell checker and grammar is also not 
working - i have been through the usual stuff e.g. making sure checking is 
enabled via the 'proofing' section but nothing works - i almost feel like 
going back to Word 2003 but i have tried and it's not that easy.

Uninstalling/Reinstalling is nearly always a total waste of time because 
none of the users settings, macros, add-ins, templates or registry entries 
are changed.

Open your document, use ctrl+a to SelectAll. Select the Review Tab and click 
on Set Language. Make sure that YOUR local language is selected and that 
both the check boxes at the bottom are Deselected and then press the DEFAULT 
button.

Now go to Word Options, Proofing tab (Alt+F, I, P) and make sure that the 
Check Spieling while you type option is checked.

4.Word 2007 Spell checker not working did the 3 steps people already 

Hi my spell checker doesn't work i did the language settings in both word 
options and under review i high lighted and un highlighted and i checked for 
that key which i dont have. I really need to know how to fix this because im 
in college and about every week i have atleast 3 different papers to write 
Please help.

5.Word 2007 automatic spell checker not working 

I've tried turning on the automatic spelling and grammar checker via the 
proofing options. For some reason it can only show grammar errors (green 
squigly line) yet it cannot show spelling errors (red squigly line).

If I then select the check spelling and grammar option it only checks the 
grammar. I've fiddled around with how checking every box I can try in the 
proofing options but nothing seems to work!!!!

It's really doing my head in, having word but it won't correct any spelling 
mistakes.

Any help would be gratefully received.
