    Please Help! I am using document protection in word 2007 and am having some odd issues. When I create a template file (.dotx) I have no problems starting protection, and assigning a password. I then save and close the template file. When I create a new document based on the template (docx) and try to stop the protection, Word does NOT prompt me for a password. This means that anyone can stop the protection. I can open the template file and attempt to stop the protection and Word DOES prompt for a password. Also, if I save the template to the 2003 version (.dot) and open a new document from it, then the password prompt works correctly, so it has something to do with the .dotx or docx extension. I searched the web and this forum for any similar issues to no avail. Any help is appreciated! Thanks, Eric

    I have an older merge document/data source. I originally set this up a few years ago in an older version of Word (and no, I don't remember what version!). It has been working fine in Word 2003. It is basically a time sheet template (a document I created) with separate data in Word merged into it. Just recently I went into this document and did something wrong. I think I hit the "no" button because I just wanted to take a quick look at something. Now I seem to have lost the connection between the template and the data source because it no longer shows any records and I am no longer able to pull up the data for any of the over 400+ individuals (yes, I'm sniveling....sorry). So I still have the template and there is still a file in my folder titled MRGDATA1.DOC that seems to be a wierd looking depository for all of the data, but they are not longer merging. Hope this makes some sense because I r-e-a-l-l-y don't want to create this all over again. Thanks for any help!

Is it possible to have a large document protected (so it cannot be edited), 
but allow certain pages to still be edited, ie. excluded from the 
protection. I write Safety Systems for companies, and have had a request to 
leave the MSDS Register unprotected so it can be edited in the customers 
office.

What version of Word do you use? It is possible in Word 2003.

This is possible at least since Word 97. You can protect a document as a 
whole or on a section basis. Some formatting options will not be present 
even in unprotected sections, though. Best look up "protection" in your 
offline help.

According to MS documentation, parameters can be placed under the
Catalogs\<myCatalog> subkey that override entries under ContentIndex in the
registry. Does anyone know if this is supposed to work?

IE. If I add an entry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\ContentIndex\Catalogs\My
Catalog\NoiseFile="mynoisefile.dat"

will this override the entry in languages?

If not, how can it be done?

This is on Win2K-SP3.
