  • 4. top of page not seen
I usually keep my view in page layout view. For some reason, when I start now, the top of the page butts up right to the top ruler. The left ruler starts with 0 and goes down, but both the margins for top and the preview indicate that there is an inch or so there. I used to see that inch on the ruler as a blue shaded region, before the ruler would show the white area which indicated the writeable area. Any ideas of what I can do to get my view back to how it used to be? Thx. -- Boris

section page numbers in heading and total page number in footing

In a document with different sections I want to add the number of section
pages in the header and the total number of pages of the document in the
footing. This seems to give a conflict. As soon as I add in the footer the
total number of pages of the document, the pagenumber of the section in the
header also changes to the total number of pages of the document.

Read this

and see if it helps at all.

I've done some section numbering to have A-1, A-2, A-3 in section A, B-1,
B-2, B-3, in section B and I found it to be rather cumbersome. Have at it!
I'm not sure how you'd keep a running total of the number of pages in each
section, however.

2.Total pages within a section, page number in footer

I have Word documents that contain a converpage and several content pages.

For example a 5 page document has 1 cover page and 4 content pages.
I want the footers on the content pages to say 'Page 1 of 4', '2 of 4', '3
of 4' and '4 of 4'

I have tried using page number zero on the first page as well as defining a
section starting on the second page but get page numbers '1 of 5' etc.
Still counts the first page in the total number of pages

Thanks

Tom

3.Page numbering sections with number of pages in that section

4.Page numbering Sections without counting Section 1 in the total

I need to creat a file that has two sections. Section 1 is an Abstract and
Section 2 is the Narrative. I have created the sections and inserted page
numbering (x of y) in the footer of section 2. The Narrative is to be no
longer than 20 pages.

The Abstract Section 1 no footer at all, but on the status line it will
say Sec 1, 1/20.

Narrative Section 2 should have footer that says 1 of 20, etc. It does
that just fine But when you manually count the actual pages, there are 19
in the Narrative. it counting the Abstract also. On the first page of
the Narrative the status line reads Sec 2, 2/20

How can I make it quit counting the Abstract in the total number of pages?

5.Page Numbering: Changing the total Number of pages in a Long Document

I have an 85 page Word document that has a last page that I do not
want to count towards the total number of pages. In the footer, I
have each page list "Page x of xx." However, I do not want the last
page to be considered part of the xx. Is there a way to utilize the
automatic page numbering in a footer and have it not count the last
page????

Any/all assistance will be appreciated.
