  • 1. Printing EMF
I often create Visio diagrams. These diagrams are saved in Enhanced Metafile Format (*.emf). These EMF files can be viewed and printed in any graphics program. The images print fine on any printer. When these images are imported into Microsoft Word 2002, there is a problem. Many of the lines and text within the image are lost in the print process, eventhough the image appears fine on the screen. This problem is not printer specific (not a print driver). Since the image prints fine in other software packages, the problem must be somewhere in the MS Word graphic filter / print processor.

Use Print Preview to determine where the image is located.

Find the image in Print Layout view and attempt to delete it. (It may not
show in Normal view if it's not in the text layer.)

You may need to open the Drawing toolbar, select the Select Objects tool
(the white arrow) and drag that over the entire page to help you select the
image.

I forgot to mention that the image may be anchored in the header or footer.
If you can't select it otherwise, try opening the header or footer and seeing
if the image is anchored there.

1.Replacement size when pasting graphic image on graphic image

In Word 2000, when copying a graphic to the clipboard and then pasting over
an existing graphic, the newly pasted graphic would automatically resize
itself to the original shape. In the new Word 2003, the new graphic has to
be resized after pasting. Is there a way to set this back to the old default
where it will automatically resize itself? Your advice is appreciated.

3.Graphics/Images display as black blocks

I have a PPT presentation that displays fine on several different PCs when
opened in PPT 2003, as well as the PPT 2003 viewer. When the file is opened
in PPT 2007, some of the graphics display as black blocks. This was tested
against a number of different PC and laptop combinations, with the same
result.

I have encountered similar problems in Word files with embedded images as
well.

Any ideas will be much appreceated!

4.Drop Down List to display graphic image file

Is there a way to create a drop down list with text choices so that when the
choice is made Word will display its corresponding graphic image instead of
the text choice? I've read a couple threads about auto text but not really
sure how to get it to work with a list of choices from a drop down list menu.

I did it once in Access, but I did not save the programming for it, or if I
did I can't find it. I don't even know if it's possible in Word.

Using XP SP2 Word 2003

5.BMP graphics display and print as solid black boxes in Word 2004

I have several files with embedded .bmp files that displayed and
printed correctly in Word.X, but now that I have upgraded to Word 2004
they display and print as solid black boxes. I am able to copy and
paste the images into ConceptDraw and Adobe illustrator and the images
are still there, but Word 2004 can't seem to display them correctly.
I looked through the preference settings and didn't come across
anything that looked like it would help.

Any help will be greatly appreciated
