I am working on a chart with text boxes and arrows and double elbow connectors. Somehow the head of an arrow is imbedded in my document. I can't highlight the arrow head, nor delete it whether or not it is within the box, outside the box, inside or outside the drawing canvas. Any ideas? Thanks!

  • 4. Help formatting shapes!!
here is my problem: I am trying to recreate a company logo. The text is surrounded by a parallelogram, but with rounded edges. If it was just a standard parallelogram without rounded corners, I would use the template provided. I've tried using the yellow box that pops up in W2007 on the shape template (I've tried using the rectangle with slightly rounded corners) to get it to lean over like a parallelogram, but all it does is cause the shape to look more like an oval. Is there anywhere you can download additional adjustable templates?? I hope this makes sense, any suggestions?

Unfortunately we still maintain some templates in Word 2000. I'm presently attempting to modify one by adding a series of checkboxes and data-entrable fields. I've never done this before and could use any & all technical support I can find on the subject. -- Thanks, Rocky

Autoshape default

Postby Ann » Fri, 16 Jan 2004 20:35:26 GMT

I use text boxes and drawing shapes a lot in my job and up
until now, no problem. Now when I try to insert a text
box it will go to only one size (about 4" x 6")instead of
being able to grab the handles and size to what I want. I
have also found (out of curiosity anf frustration) that if
I go to a previous document that I have created (before
this problem) and it includes a text box or drawing shape
and I click on it and try to change it will go to the size
that it is going to currently (4" x 6"), am I right in
presuming that the default has been changed or reset
(presumably by me by accident). How do I get back to me
being in charge of sizing to what I want. Please help.

Is the text box inline? If so, you won't be able to make it wider than
margin width, which is 6" by default. Double-click to bring up the Format
Text Box dialog and change the wrapping to, say, Square.

Word help says that you can set an "autoshape default" for an object. It
works for the doc I'm in, but doesn't transfer to any new doc. Anyone know
how to set a new autoshape default that will work in any new doc?

Hi Robert,

You have to open the NORMAL.DOT template and make the setting in it. Then
delete the drawing, save, and close.

Hi Robert,

Then you need to ask in a MAC newsgroup :-) A lot of things are the same, but
some things are different; and I think the way files are referred to is one
of them... About all I know of Macs is that they exist :-)

1.Format Text Box - "Set AutoShape Default"

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel

All,

Is this another bug in Word 2008?

- Create a text box, with a line border of 0.76.
- Right click on the text box, and select "Set AutoShape Defaults"

Now, try creating a new text box. Do you get a line border? [I don't]

I've tried editing the Normal.dotm file, fiddling with different settings, but I can't seem to figure out any way to set text boxes to have any line border by default.

Very frustrating.

Eric

2.set AutoShape default does not work

I am trying to resize my default autoshapes in Word so that they are not so
large every time I insert one, however when I resize it to the way I want and
click on resest autoshap format, it does not I work, the next time I insert a
shape, it goes back to the same size. I tried going through theses steps
even in the normal.doc template, then saving it and it did not fix the
problem. What am I doing wrong? I am using office 2003.
thanks in advance for advice...

3.set autoshape defaults for all new documents

Is the option to set autoshape defaults to a drawing element like a line or a
text box stored in MS Word 2003 for all new files or does it only apply to
the active file?

That is, i seem to lose the default confgiuration of my drawing elements.
For example: I create a line, the line is invisible because my background is
white and the line color is set to "no line". I change that setting to black.
then I select the optioin to set autshape defaults. then I create a text box
next to the line (which is pointing to something). Again, i have to modif the
settings to what I want and set autoshape defaults.

So, finally I open or create a new document... I have to repeat all the
changes again to the format of the autoshapes.

Is this a bug or can I fix my formats so they are the real "defaults"?
Besides, why would the default format for a line is "no line" ?

Thx
