  • 1. Org Chart
My organizational chart has been built with the auto format tool off (using word XP). The page is very full. I have two more boxes to add but every time I try to do so it steels the box from somewhere else. Then everything I write in the box is being typed in two boxes at once. Any ides why this is happening and how I can fix it?
  • 2. grouping on canvas
I posted this last week, but no response. In Word 2000, I could easily group pictures, clip art, and text boxes. Now having to use the drawing canvas (for unlike objects since you can't group without a canvas) I am having trouble still selecting the objects to group I always selected the first, hit Shift, then each object, then Group. This does appear to work on the canvas. I also had trouble placing more than one clip art object onto the canvas. They came in on top of each other and did not allow me to right-click to change the layout option (in line vs. tight or behind text). Thank you! This drawing canvas seems to have complicated what was a simple operation.
  • 3. images don't show up in microsoft office 2003?
Has anyone figured out a way to have images show up in Word 2003 since the July 2004 postings?? In my document I don't have "Picture Placeholders" checked but I still don't have the images showing up consistently. When I have an image viewable scrolling up or down past the image will cause that portion of the image to vanish. Resizing the document is the only way for the image to reappear.
  • 4. 0x8007000E Error When Inserting Clipart
Greetings. I use Citrix (which uses Terminal Services), on a Windows 2000 Server SP4 server, to use my applications. I have experienced this error when trying to insert clipart into Word and Powerpoint both. I cannot make the other users I support local Admins or network Admins, and I may not be able to update MDAC on my server (which is currently at MDAC 2.7 SP1 REFRESH) to MDAC 2.8. So, are there any other means of getting around this error? Thank you in advance, and have a wonderful weekend!
  • 5. Pasting Excel Graphs (charts/enhanced metafile pictures) into Word
I am looking for a similar solution posted by Donahue, 8/20/04, 7:07 am. I have pasted excel charts and enhanced metafile pictures in a word document, sent this to a colleague who has Word 2001 for the Mac, and she is unable to view these files. She sees a big (red?) X. Size/memory is not an issue here. Any help here?

Hi Nancy LaPonzina;

The reason why you cannot draw any line or shapes is because, you have not
selected any element from the Autoshape list - Line, connectors, basic shape,
Block Arrows, Flow Chart, Stars and Banners, Callouts and so on. Select one
of these elements, and then choose the type of elements you need, and draw on
the open document. Unless you draw on the document, you will not be able to
edit it using the Change Autoshape, under the Draw list in the Drawing
toolbar.

Thanks Challa but I still can't draw any line or shapes even if I select an
element from the Autoshape list. I'm trying to add a line to a footer and
place a page number beneath the line. I never had this problem before
upgrading to Word 2003.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled without luck.

The usual way to have a "line" in the footer is to add a paragraph border.

Hmmm. How would I add a paragraph border as a line in a footer? That may be
a way around this until our IT can figure it out. They're working on it now
and are having a difficult time.
Thanks.

Select the footer paragraph, go to Format | Borders and Numbering and add a
(top?) border of the desired weight, style, and color. In the Options dialog
you can specify the distance from text. Note that the line will be the same
width as the paragraph. If you need one that goes right across the page,
then an AutoShape is a better choice (though this *can* be done with a
border).

1.Cut selected graphic/shape and paste it into a drawing canvas

Dear Experts:

below macro inserts a drawing canvas at the insertion point. It works
as desired. I now would like the macro to be expanded to process the
following tasks:

1. Any selected shape/graphic is to be checked whether it has the
property: 'floating over text'. If this is not the case the macro
should set this property.
2. the selected graphic is to be cut and pasted into the drawing
canvas that is inserted by running below macro.

Help is much appreciated. Thank you very much in advance for your
professional help. Regards, Andreas

2.Cannot ungroup shapes in a drawing in Microsoft Word

I have a Word document in which i have created a drawing using the autoshapes
and text. At some point i have grouped the shapes together to ensure that the
didn't move relativelty to each other.
Now i want to change one of the lines but i cannot ungroup the shapes. I can
click on a single shape and change the color and thickness of the line, but i
cant move it or change its start and ending point.

3.Cannot delete line drawn with Line Tool

Seems like the oddest thing. I tried to add a line with
the Graphic Line Tool (right next to "AutoShapes"). I
started to move the line around, and suddenly I could not
move nor access nor delete nor do anything with the line,
but it is still there. It prints, it show up in .pdf, and
I cannot get rid of it for beans. Any help would be
greatly appreciated, thanks.

4.Drawing simple shapes, like lines, has gotten harder in Word 2007

There is precious little said online about how the new connector "line" and
"elbow line" tools are supposed to work, or why they behave in unexpected
manners, on a drawing canvas. I have played with them extensively enough to
have come to the conclusion that some update to correct their many bugs is in
order.

The (connector) "line" and "elbow line" tools go haywire trying to connect
to things I don't want them to, every time; the elbow line takes all kinds of
crooked shapes, shooting off the drawing canvas, ... making you give up
trying to use it! When I am lucky enough to fix its shape by dragging the
handles on the line segments, the next time I attach another connector
anywhere on that canvas, the adjustments I made get completely undone,
springing back to the singular way in which Word pleases to route my lines: a
crooked way!

So now, I am finally resigned to never using connector lines (though it
would certainly be helpful if they worked as they're supposed to) and to
using only the "freeform" shape tool to draw even the simplest straight line.

If anyone knows of a solution to this, like a software-fix update, let me
know.

Thanks.

Fix it. It should work the same as in PowerPoint. So much for cross
