  • 3. Why won't my bitmap update when I've used Insert and Link?
When inserting a bitmap into my Word document, I select Insert and Link, because I need to distribute to people who don't have access to the source graphics, but I want to retain the link to the source graphic so I can easily update the illustrations in my document. This worked in previous versions of Word, but Word 2003 doesn't seem to support it. Is there another way to accomplish what I want? I've tried inserting the bitmaps as an object, but then the file size balloons.
  • 4. Why don't my connectors snap to my autoshapes?
When I use the drawing toolbar, I add a flowchart shape and then I add another. So now I have two boxes. The office assistant is telling me that when I select a connector from the drawing-->flowchart menu, the connector should automatically snap to these two boxes. It also says that when you run your mouse over the box, the connecting points should be shown in blue. None of this is happening for me. I tried restoring defaults but still I cannot get connector points on my flowchart autoshapes. Please help. Also the office assistant is telling me that if I right click the flowchart shape, I should get an option to "Add Text" but this isn't happening either. Any suggestions?

How do I draw a line with the shift and underline keys?

Using Microsoft Office Word 2003 with Windows XP.
Before I could draw a line across a page by holding down the shift key and
underline key for a short time, then hitting the enter key. I would like to
know why this no longer works.

You have to have "Borders" checked on the AutoFormat As You Type tab of
Tools | AutoCorrect Options. FWIW, you can accomplish the same thing by
clicking the Bottom Border button on the Borders palette on the Formatting
toolbar.

You might try zooming in to 500%. Then, hold down Ctrl+Alt+Shift and
extending the line with the mouse. It seems to allow extending a drawn line
in small increments in Word 2002.
