I purchased Microsoft Office XP Professional Special Edition with Frontpage for a hefty price of $500 last year. I am unable to find Frontpage available for the new upgrade of Professional for the 2003 edition. Is there a rebate or certificate around or a package I am unaware of to receive Frontpage bundled with all of the other Microsoft Office programs. I use FrontPage for my dad's website, and am finding it hard to believe after spending $500, I might have to buy this seperately? I didn't buy it within the Aug 15-Nov 30 period, as I bought XP around when it first came out. Thank you, Brett
  • 2. What did I do? Office 2000 apps take 20 seconds to open
Hi, I'm using Windows Xp and Office 2000. I don't remember doing anything stupid, but I guess I did. For the last several weeks whenever I double click an office file (XLS, doc, ppt etc.) it takes about 20 seconds for the file to open. If I click on the app first, it opens instantly, if I then open the file from the open window it opens instantly. I have un/re-installed Office with no change. I have individually associates the file extentions as well, but nothing works. These types of files used to open almost instantly previously. Anyone ever have this happen to them, or have any suggestions. Thanks in advance Father Guido I plan on living forever... so far, so good
  • 3. Missing text when printing
I have an HP Laserjet 1200 connected via USB to a Win98/Office 2000, Hebrew enabled. When I print to it from Office, it will sometimes drop whole sections of text - as if they had a white foreground color. (i.e. they're not deleted but just invisible). Sending the document to my HP Deskjet, connected via the parallel port, prints the document with no problem. Also, other, non Office, programs have no such problem with the printing to either printer. Does anyone have a suggestion? ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- Asher Grossman XXXX@XXXXX.COM ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----
  • 4. Word XP Crashing to Black Screen
I really hope someone can help me here. A client of mine has a Compaq Presario 5000 with Windows ME. They are running Office XP Standard. When they are using any of the Office applications (but more Word), the program will regularly and usually quickly, black out their screena nd send their monitor into power save mode. This is only happening in these Office applications and nothing else. I have updated all their drivers and have updated Office XP with every update available on office.microsoft.com. I cannot find any information on this problem or what to do about it. Can anyone help me out? Thanks all!
  • 5. Office97 will not open in XP
I am unable to use Office97 since I have a new computer. When my old computer died, I transfered my hard drive in the old computer which contained my Office97 to my new computer. My old computer used WindowsME, the new one runs XP.

.docx becomes .zip when opened from web

Postby Salva » Tue, 11 Sep 2007 22:17:51 GMT

I have installed office 2007 and I can open .docx documents when they are
being open from the computer or a file share.

My problem is when I open a docx from a website. It then asks me to save
the zip file instead of just opening the document.

I have tried to repair and uninstall/install Office 2007 but with same
result.

Does anyone have a tip to get Word to open docx files from web?

Hi Salva,

The Office 2007 .---x formats are zip files, renamed. Depending on how you're opening the files you may need to set the mime types
for those files on the web server to be recognized as older format .doc files.

Today, I found out that it has something to do with Intenret Explorer.
Among other things I reset the settings in IE and now I can open docx files
from our intranet.

Tomorrow I'll try the same on another machine and hope it works.

Thanks

I've been having the same problem with .docx and .xlsx files being saved as
.zip files... and thus I cannot open them. Can you explain what you mean by
'reset the settings in Internet Explorer'? What changes did you make to reset
IE. Thank you.
Lance

Hi - just throwing in my 2 cents worth. I too tried resetting my IE settings
(IE 7) and got the same results. I'd be interested in the specifics of how
Salva got it working.

Felix

This should help, even though it was written for PowerPoint.

PowerPoint 2007 files don't download correctly from a Web Server, open as
zip files

Have two systems, well actually many systems, accessing mail from from same
exchange server via webmail and SMTP through Outlook. A few do not have this
problem but all others do. Leading me to believe that this isn't a server
change. Besides I've entered all the neccesary MAPI entries.

When 2007 documents are opened from within the 'Local Network' (from Outlook
or via explorer etc.) no problem. However when the same attachments are
accessed from webmail, inside or outside the perimeter, they (on most
machines) try to open/save as zip's.

I know the user can change the name post-saving but this is a nightmare
given the number of times it needs to be done.

Now is the exchange IIS still configured incorrectly, and the few machines
that work are a client fluke? Or more likely is there an easy change to the
client that can be GP'ed out?

Any advice (not already tried) would be most appreciated.

Thanks

Resetting IE didn't work for me. Follow the link below for a summary
of solutions. There is a server-side solution if you have control over
the server. My main client-side solution is "use firefox" :-) ... but
if you
have to use IE you can use "save as" or you can rename the file after
download.

my problem was similar. several machines saving .docx or .xlsx as a
.docx.zip. unzipping didn't work. It isn't a MIME/server side thing, i
tried on IIS, apache and ruby with mongrels. Tired of repeating myself
at this point, decided to give 15 min to the internet and answer the
question, heres a screenshot and instructions, tell me if this works or
doesn't and i'll try to help more. 'windowsnerd.com .xlsx and .docx
are being saved as a zip file in explorer?' ( http://www.**--****.com/ )

This may help:

Office files don't download correctly from a Web Server; saved as zip
files instead
 http://www.**--****.com/

In particular, see the part about changing the IE security settings.

1..docx becomes .zip

Hi guys, need help. Have a user when she installed with Office 2007. When she
open .docx files via Internet, the system prompts her to download a .zip file
instead. I am suspecting there's a registry key involved. User is using Win
XP. Don't wish to adopt reformatting.

The current workaround that i have now is to ask the user to save the
document with a .docx extension, it works and opens with Office 2007, but
that's not what the user wants.

What i have done (all these doesn't work)
1) Changing file type of .docx to Office 2007
2) Reinstalling Office 2007
3) Installing Office 2003 with Compatibility Pack

2.when download file with docx extension, IE changes the .docx to .zip

  How do I do that?
Thank you in advance for your help in this matter. [:)]

4.Zip codes become "0" folloing a merge

92129-1234 in an Excel DB becomes "0" when merged in Word.
How can I prevent this?

2nd - If I simply delete the last 4 and the dash "0" still
appears. The only way to get a zip code to show is to copy
the contents of another cell with the desired zip code in
it. If I copy another Zip code in just to get the
formatting, then change it tot the zip I want, the zip
still shows up as "0".

Any Ideas Why or how to correct the problem???
