Is a printer installed/set up for that computer? The usual reason for not seeing [many] fonts available in Word is that a printer hasn't been set up. Being WYSIWYG, it can't show you WYG unless it knows what printer you plan to use. -- -- Herb Tyson MS MVP Please respond in the newsgroups so everyone can follow along. *Remove x's for domain* mailto: XXXX@XXXXX.COM http://www.**--****.com/
1.Please help - Word 2002/XP Pro Stops Responding
I have user who accesses documents over the network (domain based) using Word 2002 on XP Pro. The document server is SBS 2003 - documents are simply in a folder, no other server software involved. The user has a mapped drive to the shared folder. The client runs Word, Excel, Access, Quickbooks and Norton Anti-virus Pro. The problem is Word stops responding numerous times a day, freezes or otherwise hangs up causing doc changes to be lost. Sometimes when documents are recovered they are "read only". I have seen stranded "tmp" files so I assume the read only issue is Word thinking the document is still open due to the presence of the tmp file (please advise if there are other possibilities here). The user is very frustrated at this point and short of reinstalling everything, I don't know what else to try. I have seen other posts with similar issues where reinstallation did not help, but I don't eliminate it as a possibility. The event log shows the following errors consistently when the hangs occur. I have removed old netware drivers that had been on the system, and removed the symantec office plug in. The system was screened for spyware, viruses, etc. I did notice there are also some time synchronization errors in the event log (sorry I don't have those specifics). I would really appreciate any suggestions as to what to try next. Thanks very much for any and all help. 2.Outlook 2002 Hangs on XP--Please Help
I cannot seem to keep Outlook 2002 from hanging my computer for 1-3 minutes. This happens at least a dozen times a day, and seems to happen when mail is being sent/receive. I am running Outlook on XP. Intel 2.4 Mhz with 1 GB RAM. Have PST file on Drive D. Have disabled MSN Messenger in Outlook. I run Norton Systemworks and Internet Security. Have removed WinFax. I am at my wits end and am considering going back to Windows 2000 or Office 2000. Any other suggestions?
3.please help - reinstalling Outlook 2002 (XP)
'Morning all, I have to go in to the boss' WinXP laptop and uninstall and then REinstall Outlook 2002. I know that I take it out in the add/remove programs section, but when I reinstall from the disk I wonder if the installer will let me put JUST Outlook back on. I recall I did this once before with the Win98 Version of Office and I could UNinstall an individual Office program just fine, but when it came to REinstalling that particular piece (Word, I believe), though the options existed for putting JUST that part on (checkboxes and such), the bloody disk went ahead and reinstalled the ENTIRE suite (Oh, it went through the motions of reinstalling only Word, but before I could stop the thing, it went ahead and overwrote all the other Office products, DESPITE the fact that it swore up and down (via those handy pop-up status progress windows) that it was only going to reinstall Word). Fortunately, I had all the appropriate data backed up so that wheere I now had blank folders for Access and Excell (where once there was valuable data), I could merely reinstall that stuff from the server, but what a pain! When I do it now, I want to be sure that I'm taking off Outlook (no problem there) and ONLY reinstalling Outlook, leaving the rest of the Office suite (and it's data directories) intact. Is the Win98 "annoyance" fixed in the XP version and can I just go ahead and start, or is there something else I need to know first? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, ~Art... PS by the way, I'm taking Outlook off because his box is having trouble communicating with AOL accounts and I'm wondering if something in Outlook was corrupted. His box CAN get to those accounts via Outlook Express and none of the rest of us on the network have this problem, so I'm assuming it's just his copy Outlook itself or his .PST. Any thoughts?
4.Outlook XP/2002 crash. Help with Cloudmark please
I have read the problems and resolutions about the current Outlook problems with those using Cloudmark. I have that problem. Mybe I made a mistake by trying to un-install cloudmark before I read the post on their forum. There were 2 Cloudmarks to un-install. One un-installed normally, the other would not. I keep getting messages about a problem with the Windows Installer package. I have written tech support at Cloudmark and they tell me to read their bulletin. I hope that some of you more experienced types can help this old guy out. Thanks. Ken
