  • 4. Windows XP Pro wants Office 2000 Installation cd for Windows Searc
    We've got this annoying problem on some of our workstations where when the user attempts to do a Windows Search on any drive (Local or Network) they get an Office 2000 Installation dialogue and the Office 2000 cd is requested. Providing the cd does not help, it just fails the install and retries (4 times total). For now we just have the two affected users cancelling the install four times. After cancelling it, searching works fine, and it only happens the first time you open the search window. It only seems to occur to certain users who have new profiles (The problem is user-specific on certain machines, other users can use the same machines without problems). I've tried the basics like reinstalling office, I've even removed the local user profiles. I've stopped short of deleting the roaming profiles for the affected user, as they have a lot of other programs which have Profile based configurations, not to mention their files. Any input would be appreciated.

I took my laptop home and viewed some pictures on my home PC over the network 
with Picture Manager.  Now that I'm at work, the folders from home appear in 
the recently browsed list in Pic Man.  If I touch them, Pic Man hangs until 
the network access times out.  Pic Man also takes about 10 minutes to open 
now and I suspect this may be related to the attempt to access the pictures 
on the network.

I tried clearing the history information in IE with no change.  So far I 
have not found any reference to the problem folders in the registry or 
anywhere else...

When you were at home, did you map a network drive to view the pictures? 
  And is this mapped drive still connected now that you're at work? 
Right-click on the My Computer icon on your Windows desktop, left-click 
on Disconnect Network Drive, and disconnect any mapped drives that are 
not currently available.

I never mapped a network drive, just typed in the IP address in windows 
explorer and viewed then copied some files.  The IP address was, however, 
still listed under 'network neighborhood' on my laptop.  After I deleted it 
there, Picture Manager starts immediately.

I would like to remove a few fonts from the list of recently used
fonts that is above the line when one pulls down the font list from
any number of places in Word 2003.  Thinking that it must be a
registry key that requires editing, I searched for one of the font
names but turned up only the name in a few comprehensive lists of
installed fonts.  I searched office.microsoft.com/word and found
nothing.  I searched on the Web and found nothing.  Surely this must
have been addressed somewhere....  Can anyone here offer advice on how
either to edit or to clear the list of recently used fonts in Wd2003?
