I've been using Outlook 2003 w/ my Cox email account successfully for several years. However, since Saturday I have not been able to receive email in Outlook. I can send email, but cannot receive it. I checked my Cox email online and the account is receiving email but it is not coming through on Outlook. I called Cox and they told me they don't support this problem. The error message I'm getting in Outlook is: Task 'pop.west.cox.net - Receiving' reported error (0X80042108). Unable to connect to your incoming (POP3) e-mail server. If you continue to receive this message contact your server administrator or ISP." Cox says it isn't them but Outlook is sending just fine - it can't receive. Any thoughts?

My computer came with MS Office 2003 Basic installed. I bought MS Office 2003
Small Business "upgrade" software, but it won't allow me to install, because
it is looking for Office 97 or 2000 and can't find it. How can I upgrade from
Basic to Small Business with the package I bought?

You can't - "upgrading" from one version of the same Office product is
considered a crossgrade update and is not supported. You should have
checked the upgrade site before purchasing your version.

You could try finding a copy of Office 97, 2000 or XP on EBay and then
use that for upgrade
validation.

Actually I bought the Small Business version for my laptop, where it
installed quite nicely. My main issue is that with the Small Business version
of Outlook I can click on INSERT - SIGNATURE, and all the signatures I have
stored cup up for choice (I use about 8 different signatures in my business).
With Office Basic, when I click on INSERT, there is no line for SIGNATURE,
except the AUTO TEXT line, which doesn't allow optional signatures, just a
default one. Any suggestions?

Are you using Word for the editor in this version?

Yes. Under the TOOLS - OPTIONS - MAIL FORMAT tab, I have enabled both boxes
which refer to Word for editing and reading.

Uncheck using Word, install your signatures, make one the default, then
re-check using
Word as the editor. Then when composing a new mail and your signature
appears, you can right click the signature and select any of your defined
signatures.

Thanks, Milly. That worked fine for "new" messages, but not for replies or
forwards. Meanwhile I have gotten a copy of MS Office SBE from my son who
works for Dell. Should I uninstall MS Office Basic before installing SBE?
Thanks again.

I always suggest uninstalling a prior version before a new version.
However, always back up your data for safekeeping. The new SBE Office
should reuse your settings but you can never be too careful.

1.Outlook wants to upgrade itself from Win95

I'm running WinXPPro-SP1 and OfficePro 2000 SP2. I have three users, all of whom have the same secuirty ratings. On my user, Outlook opens and runs about as well as can be expected. For the other two users, it ALWAYS gives a message that Windows has been upgraded from Win95 or Win98 and Outlook needs to reconfigure itself. When I try to get it to do its crap, it always fails, saying it Installer doesn't have sufficient rights. Even running fix & repair doesn't help. What next? Eudora?

2.Word wants to close itself since upgrade from Office 2000 to XP

We just upgraded from Office 2000 to Office XP. Since then, I've had two
issues:

1. Measurment units in Word were incorrect and unchangable - fixed that via
Knowledge Base by deleting and recreating the default settings. This didn't
have an effect on the 2nd issue.

2. Word keeps trying to close itself every 5 minutes or so. If I haven't
made any changes to the document, Word will close itself unprompted. If I've
made changes, it will ask if I want to save. If I don't respond, dialog boxes
will stack up saying that another dialog box is open and Word can't close.

Anyone have any ideas on this?

3.Word 2002 (not upgrade) wants "qualifying product" to install

I cannot reinstall Word 2002 after reinstall of WinXP. This is not an
upgrade CD and I successfully installed it before. And of course I have the
product key. I've never seen this happen before. Why won't it install?

4.Upgrade wants CDs - don't have them

I have upgraded a laptop running W98 to run Windows XP.
The laptop had a legal copy of Office XP loaded.

Windows installer now asks me to insert the CD Microsoft Office XP
Professional with FrontPage. I don't have these CDs.

What is my next move?
