  • 1. Write failures from Word 2003 to a network share
We are experiencing an intermittent problem with users running Office 2003 SP3 (under XP) and saving files to our EMC Celerra. We haven't conclusively determined if users of other versions of Office have this problem. They can open word documents and write to their networked home directories fine, but periodically some users will find themselves unable to save as the document, and give the user an error saying that the document is read only. They can use "Save as" to save the file to a new name. According to the ACL setting on the file, the user does indeed have write privileges on the file. Restarting office will correct the problem, but it will eventually recur. We do not experience this problem with wordpad, or notepad. After reviewing a network dump, EMC has advised there is a race condition on the client which is causing it to behave improperly.
  • 2. How install ProofingTools2003 on new Vista machine
I purchased ProofingTools2003 over a year ago. I now have a new PC with Vista and Office 2007. When I tried to install Proofing Tools 2003 again I get an error message saying it is not compatible. How can I resolve?
  • 3. Office 2007 Compatibility Pack Group Policy Install
I have been trying to deploy the Office 2007 Compatibility Pack via group policy, I have extracted the files from the download package and have created a policy for it in the usual way. The resultant set of policy shows that the policy applied successfully but the converter pack is not installed? I deploy a great deal of software via GPO and have never had any trouble before. Am I doing something wrong? does this require some special settings? Thanks.

I have a computer (XPproSP2) that now cannot unzip. I get an error, "dvzeng.exe entry not found. The procedure entrypoint_resetstkoflw could not be located in the dynamic link library msvcrl.dll". I cannot unzip any files (.doc, .pdf, .xls, etc.) and cannot open .zip file attachments from Outlook now either. Anyone know of a quick fix? Everything else about this error that I've found is regarding boot issues. I just need to unzip. I appreciate any guidance. Thank you! :)

A long time ago, I read there was a way to use the keyboard to create the
"Cents" sign in a document.

I can't offer specific advice, since your question is devoid of details.

Here's one way to insert the symbol for cents, if you have Windows XP:

1. Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Character Map

2. Choose your font from the drop-down list at the top of the window.

3. Locate and click on the symbol for cents.

4. Look on the right side of the status bar for the Keystroke box. That
gives you a keystroke combination you can use in just about any Office file.

I would like to suggest that you include more detail when you ask a
question. It gets you to the right answer faster.

The Alt+numeric keypad strokes are listed in the "Insert", "Symbol"
dialog box. For the cent sign it happens to be Alt+0162
