  • 1. User Migration Question
Greetings all. We are close to moving from Office 97 to Office 2003 (finally!). I was wondering if anyone had some documentation or suggestions of where to find documentation for the major changes for our users from 97 all the way up to 2003. This change appears to be fairly major for our users so I would like to point them to the benefits of the change from their point of view. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Jon
  • 2. Outlook 2002 and Works Suite 2004 incompatibility
Help! When we install outlook 2002 on a machine, then try installing Works Suite 2004, we get the error "another version of this product is already installed. Installation of this version cannot continue. To configure or remove the existing version of this product, use Add/Remove Programs on the Control Panel." This is a freshly built Windows 98 machine. No previous versions of Office, Outlook, Works or Windows are on it. We also tried installing Works Suite first, then Outlook. We get the same error. Any ideas? Thank you. Jason Chapa XXXX@XXXXX.COM

Office products behave badly after Domain/profile change.

We needed to change the domain that our users log in to. To do this we logged
into the new domain as each user on their respective computers, logged out,
logged in as the local administrator, removed the folder username.newDomain
from documents and settings, added the domain user permission to the old
username folder, renamed it to username.newDomain, and viola they had their
desktop etc.

The only problem we encountered with this technique is that when we run
Office apps, a few odd things happen unless we make the domain user a member
of the local administrators group.

The odd things are;

Outlook will not start at all.
Word and Excel ask for the username and initials every time they start.

For the moment we have everyone logging in as local admin, but we would like
to change this back.

Any ideas?

Paul

Rick:

Excuse me, when I saw "Access Security", under windows I assumed it meant
windows access security basically security to access things under windows.

Not "Windows Access Security."

I will try to find a more applicable group.

3.Reuse domain profile user settings in new domain

I had a domain profile (test.net\myname) that I was using for a while on my
laptop. I have since rebuilt the domain controller (changed from Server 2008
full to a core installation), but the new domain is still called test.net. I
only have the one server so recreated the domain/forest. I also changed the
server name from SRVR01 to CORE01.

Is there any way for me to keep all the old profile settings that I had
(email, desktop, etc.)? I basically want a clone of my old user (same user
name as well) so it's as if I never rebuilt the domain.

Thanks in advance,

4.Outlook behaving badly!!!

When I log on to outlook there is a message at the bottom of the page
"sending 1 or 55". As there are no messages in my outbox why does this
happen. I have to stop the send and receive and start it again from the
tools bar to stop this "sending" message. The "sending "message only shows
sending 1 of the supposed 55 and although having started send and receive
from the toolbar it can only operate as far as 58% as another messages pops
onto the screen asking me to enter user name and password. I click OK but it
comes back again and until i press cancel my send and receive status remains
stuck at around 58%. I have tried resetting the offending e-mail address to
no avail - I am not infact able to receive any e-mails for this particular
address These two problems have been present for some week now but I do not
know how to deal with either of them. Help!!
