  • 1. Office Customization Tool for Office 2007 Help
Hey there, I'm not having much luck with help on Office Customization questions... Am i posting in the wrong group??? My new question is how do you create a file association for XNK files to work with Outlook 2007... It used to work in 2003, now the calendars and association don't work with XNK files... You can manually create the association, but is there a way to set it up in the Customization tool, so it automatically gets done on all computers??? I can do the following to manually get it working (but want to try and automate it in Office Customization Tool if possible) Click Start, click Run, type Explorer in the Open box, and then click OK. On the Tools menu, click Folder Options. In the Folder Options dialog box, click the File Types tab, and then click New. In the Create New Extensions dialog box, type xnk in the File Extension box, and then click OK. Click to select XNK under Registered file types, and then click Advanced. In the Edit File Type dialog box, type XNK next to the icon, and then click New. In the New Action dialog box, type OPEN for Action, and then type the following text under Application used to perform action: "DriveLetter:\path\Outlook.exe" /x "%1" Thanks for any help...
  • 2. Locating and Updating Office Licenses
We have numerous Office licenses, usually bouth in batchs of 5 or 10....... As is usual in a distibuted organisation (!) we have now lost track of which PC has which license on it. This leads me to two questions: 1) Is there anyway on an installed system I can track back from the installed software to the license key? 2) Is there any way of updating an installed Office to a different license key without having to do an uninstall and fresh install? TIA, JohnK
  • 3. Uninstall or Upgrade?
My new computer came with the office 2007 small business 60 day trial but I do not plan to use it because I have the office enterprise 2007 DVD. Should I uninstall the small business version before installing the enterprise version or can I just start the enterprise install and it will upgrade from the small business version?
  • 4. office pro 2007 in windows xp 'set up did not complete successfull
Hi - Got my hp laptop from factory after hard drive re-imaging; installed Office 2007 pro fine and all worked. Then Outlook wouldn't open - "null - not a valid WIN 32 application". Running Diagnostics showed no problem (of course). So I thought I would insert the Office installation CD to try to repair or reinstall. Can't open the CD though - instead I get the above message. Thought I would try then a system restore and couldn't do that either for at least 2 points (found a fix for that - just haven't run it yet). Help!

word will not open

Postby lenny » Sat, 02 Jul 2005 04:05:02 GMT

Hi, Related to my other post in this group but here I will try to start from
the beginning.
I can't open Word 2000. It doesn't matter if I click on the shortcut or the
actual .exe nothing happens. WINWORD.EXE is however showing under Processes
in Windows Task Manager. If I click on the shortcut 4 times it appears 4
times. I can't End Process on any of them. The only way I can stop the
process is to restart Windows.

Please, does any body have any idea what could be wrong. I have deleted
normal.dot. All other programs run ok, install ok and delete ok. It is only
Word that will not do any of those things.

I am completely stuck.

Event viewer only shows errors in System. Event ID 104 The System Restore
initialization process failed.
Event ID 7000 The Microsoft Secure Messenger.NET Service service failed to
start due to the following error......
The filename, directory name or volume label syntax is incorrect

Event ID 7023
The system Restore Service service terminated with the following error:
The system cannot find the file specified.

They are the only errors I can see and they don't look relevant to me. I
might be wrong.

Please help.

thanks for the help. I have sorted it out by removing all traces from the
registry that I could find, deleting the program folder and then
It worked anyway.

And a second file with one worksheet and one column on it,

I want a function/macro that verifies if each cell from

that cell to the corresponding worksheet from A-Z or 0-9.

The function/macro must allow repeating this process for

3.word editor in outlook not working, word not opening

Just started having problems with Word 2003 not opening - get error message
saying it encountered a problem. If I untick "recover my work and restart
Microsoft Word", then the next time I try to open it asks if I want to do so
in Safe Mode.

This may be unrelated, but has come just after I started having problems
with my Outlook 2003.

When I try to do a new email, it opens with my previously OK signatures now
double spaced and the options button in my toolbar does not have all of the
signatures that were once there (I have different signatures depending on
which business I am working on at the time).

When I go to Tools, Options, Mail Format and tick "use Microsoft Office Word
2003 to edit email messages" and then try to start a new email, I get the old
"red cross" telling me that although Word is set to be the editor, it is
unavailable, not installed or not the same version, and that the outlook
email editor will be used instead.

Can anyone assist me with this. It first occured on my office desktop and
has now started on my laptop at home which I use as a remote to the office
desktop by LogMeIn. I think it started on the laptop when I tried to open a
Word document that I had forwarded to the laptop from the office.

The home desktop that I am using at present seems to still be OK.

I am of the belief that nothing that I experience is unique - i'm just not
that special! I'd appreciate any help that you can give to get this problem

Many thanks,

4.word in open then opens pdf file but does not open to adobe read

I have a user who says she opens word 2002 and then locates her pdf file and
it would open for her via word but now suddenly it doesn't work. This is news
to me. I opened up the file in adobe reader fine. I checked the associations
and all directed correctly.
I think she is blowing smoke but wanted to check before I advise her.

5.workbook does not open automatically after opening word form

Regarding mail merge. Before once i open my word form the data or the
workbook from excel would open automatically. I use 97, me before and
everything is okay. Now i am using 2003 and it seems I am having problem with
merging. Although data merges with the form but I could not edit data without
turning off the word form first otherwise even though I make changes or add
data on the worksheet the
changes would not be reflected on the form.

Is office 2003 really has different ways to do this?
