  • 5. Installing Office Svc Pack 3 without CD - W2000 Pro
I cannot find a way to install the (badly needed) Office Service Pack 3 on my laptop, which runs Windows 2000 Pro. Part way through the SP3 download, it stops to ask for the Office CD. However, I do not have it -- that software was installed under a license from my former employer, perhaps downloaded from our server. This has become critical because I have begun to get random error messages from installed Office components, and especially because I have come to understand that I must have SP3 installed in order to configure Outlook (NOT Outlook Express) to work with Hotmail, my new e-mail provider. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thank you, -- AmyL -- AmyL

Apologies for the mistake. I assumed this was the problem, but what do I do
about it, please? Do I have to uninstall Word?

No, it shouldn't be necessary to uninstall Word 2002 or Works Suite.
Did you install SR1a for Office 2000 before you tried to install SP3?
When you try to install SP3 for Office 2000, exactly what does the error
message say? There are several versions of SP3 for Office 2000... what
is the URL for the SP3 update that you are trying to install? And since
you have components of both Office 2000 and Office XP on your computer,
it would be appropriate to install both SP3 for Office 2000 and SP3 for
Office XP.

Hi there,
Yes, I installed SR1a some time ago.
I have been trying to install the SP3 update from the file named O2kSp3.exe
(version 5.0.2919.6304), downloaded from the Microsoft site.
The exact error message reads:
"The expected version of the product was not found on your system"
If I try the Office updates web page now I get the info about Office Update
is unable to check for updates instead of the previous one about Office XP
SP3 being needed...
I have Office 2000 Pro and Office 2000 Developer and have the disks for
these but Word 2002 is a hard disk installation.
Thank you for your help.

3.Can I update Word 2000 without having Office?

My Windows 98SE PC came with MS Word 2000 and Works v 4.5a for Windows 95,
but did not come with the complete Office Suite. When I search for updates
to Word, it always says I first need to have other updates installed, but
these updates require the Office CD...which I don't have. Is there any other

4.Office Update Web Site - Update Office 2000 Small Business to SP3

While trying to update my Office 2000 Small Business software, I was able to
update to versions SR 1a. Next the wizard found that I needed SP3 and when I
attempted to run the update it asked for the Office 2000 Premium disk. I put
in the Office 2000 Small Business disk 1 which worked for the SR 1a update
but would not work for the SP3 update.

My Question is do I need the SP3 update and if so is there a different one
available for the Small Business version of Office 2000?
