  • 1. Office starting to fail and SP1 update not working
I have Office XP 2002. It is running on XP Professional SP1 OS. I have attempted to update Office from the web site with SP1 and could not do so. Keep getting an error. It does not allow me to update with the SP2. Now just reciently, every time I shut down Microsoft Outlook it appears to shut down, then I get a message telling me that it did not shut down correctly and gives me the option to report the error to Microsoft. I have again attempted to install the SP1 update and again it has failed. If you have had a similar problem or know of a solution to this problem, please contact me by my e-mail: XXXX@XXXXX.COM Thank you for your help if you can provide it. Baseman
  • 2. problem with officeupdate
I cannot load the office update page office.microsoft.com/officeupdate or officeupdate/default.aspx... my browser cannot find the page or cannot resolve the address. Does anyone have any ideas why this is...it seems that any pages related to office will not load. I tried dumping my cache, restarting the DNS client, etc. and nothing has worked. I have installed Office 2003, but I don't think this has anything to do with the problem? Thanks
  • 3. Upgrade from Works 2000
If I upgrade to Office 2003 from Works 2000, will it work? I bought a new computer and can't find my Office XP disk to put on new machine (Moved into different house and lost). Will I have the same problem that I did when I upgraded from Office 97 (Didn't recognize the Office 97 as a viable upgrade product)? Running Windows XP HE.
  • 4. Office 2k SP3 and Office Update Errors
Win2k system with SP4 (installer 2.0), Office 2000 Pro with SR1a. Office 2000 SP3 fails with a "Installation unsuccesful" message, no error numbers. Really helpful..... And also....The office update site says it cannot check for updates on this computer. Have tried the suggested solutions it gives with no success. Think these two problems are related? I have seen the posted fixes on this newsgroup and they all apply to either XP or windows installer 1. Anybody got anything that fixes this yet, or shall I pull the plug and just use my Macintosh? Actually I really LIKE that answer....Ron
  • 5. .msp file not found
I merged two partitions on my hard drive and now when I check for updates I get the following error messag The Office Update site is unable to check for updates on this computer. This may be happening because of one of the following reasons You do not have administrative privileges for this computer. There is a network problem and the detection catalog used by the Office Update site failed to download. Go back to the Downloads home page and try running detection again. Windows Installer patch files (.MSP files) from previously applied Office updates are missing from the \Windows\Installer hidden directory on your computer. MSP files are stored on your computer after update installation completes because they need to be referenced for future update operations. If the files are missing you will not be able to apply Office updates. You may also be unable to uninstall Office products as a result of the same problem. Please contact Microsoft Product Support for assistance. You installed Office updates in the past and then upgraded from Windows Installer version 1.0 to Windows Installer version 1.1. Can you describe the error that you are experiencing in detail and the error itself as shown in verbatim.

Meanwhile without knowing exactly what is your issue, you might want to try the following

1st Rename Office subkeys

Note: Removing the following registry keys may reset customized user
settings for your Microsoft Office programs.

1. Close all the applications.
2. Click on Start->Run, type in REGEDIT and click on OK.
3. Locate and select the following registry subkeys:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0

4. Right click on 11.0 and rename them to Old11.
5. Close the Registry Editor.

2nd. Detect and Repair Office 2003

1. On the Windows taskbar, click Start, point to and click Control Panel.
2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
3. Click Change/Remove Programs on the left pane.
4. Highlight Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003 on the right pane
and click Change.
5. Insert the correct version of CD when it requires.
6. Select "Reinstall and Repair" and click Next.
7. Select "Detect and Repair errors in my Office installation".
8. Click Install and wait the process to end.

3rd. Install the Update
