  • 1. Edit Project details
We are experiencing something strange with PS 2002. We have begun using a few enterprise project cost fields to report total project costs. We added the fields to a PWA project center view and start to enter the values into the appropriate field within "Edit Project details". Then we noticed that the values didn't showup in the project center view. So we added the values to each project file and published 'all information'. That seemed to work. Later, we noticed that some of project files in PWA didn't have any values showing for Enterprise Project Cost field. We use the edit project details to updated several enterprise fields. Its seems that the field isn't being updated with data from the project file. You can see the value in PWA project center view. But when you open the edit project detail form for that project file the value is zero. To make matters worse, if you 'save and close' the zero value updates the PWA project center view. Anyone have any suggestion as to the cause? Dave
  • 2. Gary! Fixed Duration behavior
Gary - back on 7/17 you were answering a thread regarding fixed duration behavior. I thank you for the answer you posted, it helps to some extent explain what we are seeing. Seeking clarification: If I understand what you are saying - If we set up a fixed duration, non-effort-driven task, allocate resources to it initially at, say, 30% for the fixed duration - then, when one of those resources inputs some actuals, and the units percentage in the task information or assign resources dialogue box changes to 56%, it does not mean that more or fewer hours have been allocated/planned in the project - it is just indicating that at some point in the fixed duration period, the resource who entered actuals peaked at the 56% now shown? (As an aside, I have had a couple of classes on MS Project, but unless you have an expert working over your shoulder for months to help you with every odd scenario you encounter, the courses are surface scratchers). Many thanks for your assistance on this and other issues. SBelling
  • 3. Scheduling Resource Vacations
I am trying to enter the times when my resources will be unavailable to work. I tried using the RESOURCE SHEET view, double clicking on the resource, and setting the days in the Calendar tab to NON DEFAULT WORKING TIME. This does show that a resource is unavailable during these days, in this certain view. The problem is that I want my managers to be prompted or something when they assign a resource to a task and the resource will be unavailable at any time during the task. I tried using the filtering view when ASSIGNING RESOURCES using "is available from START" and "is available to FINISH" but it still did not work. Does anyone know how to schedule resource time off so that managers can easily see that the person is unavailable when assigning resources (either project pro or PWA)? I thought of creating a special project and tasks that would represent time unavailable for each resource. Then assigning the resource to these task. Then when a manager looks at the Work Assignment graphs they will see the resource is at least busy for a few days. The problem with this if the manager still chooses to assign the resource to the task then the resource is simply allocated. At least in the first mentioned calendar method, the resource is not sceduled for that task. Instead they will merely stretch out a task's duration. Thank You for any and all help bauer172uw
  • 4. Building Teams error
Vig I think I will need a little more information on this one. . . you are clicking on build team in project pro (not the web access client) Do you have any issues opening and saving projects from the project server - or any other project server database connections at all? Is this the only message you get . . has the build team dialog box opened at this point or just the message . . Any additional information you have will help -- Regards Chris Marriott "Vig" wrote: > We have Project Server 2003 and Project Pro 2003. When I click on "Build Team.....", I get an error message - an import error occurred - check row 101 column Reseved_ResumeDate - This is not a valid date, etc - Type in a new datein the correct format. To continue imorting with additional messages, click Yes. To continue importing without messages, click No. Am I supposed to go to a db to change this date? > > thanks, >

Can't Renumber WBS for "Selected Tasks"

Postby J Baird » Sat, 06 Mar 2004 04:22:47 GMT

I have a schedule, where I've renumbered the WBS numbers for selected tasks,
on a regular basis. ([Project][Wbs][Renumber][Select Tasks])

All of a sudden, in the [WBS Renumber] dialog box, the [Selected Tasks]
option is greyed out (the [Entire Project] option is still selectable).
Nothing else has changed...the WBS settings and Code Definition are still
the same as when the [Selected Tasks] option was available.

To try to fix the problem , I selected [Project][Wbs][Renumber][Entire
Project], to renumber the entire project, hoping that would bring back the
[Selected Tasks] option, but it didn't.

I can't find anything in the knowledge base about this. Has anyone seen
this behavior before, and if so, do you know what caused it?

Hello J.

If you select only one row, the [WBS Renumber] dialog box presents only the
[Entire Project] option.
Have you tried to select several rows ?

Of course...As I said, I've renumbered selected tasks on a regular basis.
Now, the [Selected Tasks] option is greyed out. I know that I'm not the
only person that this has happened to.

1.Renumber WBS for Selected Tasks is broken for one file (it used to work)

I have a schedule where I've frequently renumbered the WBS values for parts
of the schedule, using the [Project][Wbs][Renumber][Select Tasks] command.

All of a sudden, when I select several tasks (not just one!), and click the
[WBS Renumber] dialog box, the [Selected Tasks] option is greyed out (the
[Entire Project] option is still selectable).

Nothing else has changed...the WBS settings and Code Definition are still
the same as when the [Selected Tasks] option was available. When MSP
renumbers the WBS for "Selected Tasks", it uses the first selected item as a
starting reference, and there's a valid WBS value in that task. The numbers
it would normally create with this command, are not already in the Project
file, so uniqueness isn't a problem.

To try to fix the problem , I selected [Project][Wbs][Renumber][Entire
Project], to renumber the entire project, hoping that would bring back the
[Selected Tasks] option, but it didn't.

I can't find anything in the knowledge base about this. I've had several
users complain of the same problem, but not until they have renumbered
selected tasks, a lot of times.

Has anyone seen this behavior before, and if so, do you know how we can get
the Selected Tasks WBS Renumbering to work again?

2.Renumbering WBS using the Project/WBS pull down window

I have MS Project 2003 Standard: I wish to renumber an existing WBS. The Help
instructions say: Select Project, then WBS, then Renumber, then Entire
project. When I select Project, then WBS,the window is locked in the "Define
Code" mode. The Renumber option is muted and cannot be selected. Icannot
proceed.
What am I doing wrong?
How can I renumber an existing WBS?

3.WBS Renumber greyed out

Hi,

I'd like to renumber my WBS elements. When I click Projects, WBS the
renumber menu is in grey and can not be used. This happens even a new
project with only two tasks. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

  Darrell

5.How to renumber W.B.S. codes

I have MS Project 2003 Professional. There is an option on the Project menu
for 'W.B.S.' 'Renumber', but the 'Renumber' function is not highlighted and
won't let me select it. According to online help you should be able to
select your tasks by name (or entire project) and renumber the W.B.S. codes
but I cannot get it to work. How can you do this?
