  • 1. Task Views
We are using MS Project 2003 with MS Project Web Server. Within the Tasks area of Project Web, our users are able to "Show tasks using" either a "Timesheet view" or "Gantt Chart" view. Can someone tell me where access to these views are defined. I'd like to temporarily disable the Timesheet view for certain groups of users. I would however like them to still have access to the Tasks tab with ability to see the Gamtt Chart view of their tasks. Thanks in advance.

Hi, Can you please tell me how to tell if service pack 1 has been applied to the SQL database? I know to hover over "Help" in PWA to see the Project Server version, but does this also indicate whether SP1 has actually been applied to the database? Thanks, Christian
  • 3. Tracking baseline work.
Hello. I would like to use Project Server and Pro together to track both Project related work but also time the support staff spend on baseline work, which is outside that project. How can I acheive this ? I had thought of using an administrative project but you cannot alter the view of them, so it wouldnt show any of the custom fields we would be making. I also thought of creating a dedicated project called "Baseline Work" but if the resources are assigned to that then will that not conflict if they get assigned to different projects as well ? The other problem with admin projects is you cant add notes to them. am i misunderstood on this ? Thanks Mike

  • 5. Portal and Project Server
Hi we are in the process of improving our Project Server installation. Planning to scale-out and move SQL Db to another server. I don't know if this is the correct forum for my questions but I hope someone here can enlighten me... Question: 1) Would you recommend Project Server and Sharepoint Portal Server in one server? 2) What are the benefits of using Project Server and Windows Sharepoint with Sharepoint Portal? 3) Will it benefit our company even if there's just 50 users? 4) What are the limitations if we stick to Windows Sharepoint Services? (if we just remove Sharepoint Portal)

Can't Renumber WBS for "Selected Tasks"

Postby J Baird » Sat, 06 Mar 2004 04:22:47 GMT

I have a schedule, where I've renumbered the WBS numbers for selected tasks,
on a regular basis. ([Project][Wbs][Renumber][Select Tasks])

All of a sudden, in the [WBS Renumber] dialog box, the [Selected Tasks]
option is greyed out (the [Entire Project] option is still selectable).
Nothing else has changed...the WBS settings and Code Definition are still
the same as when the [Selected Tasks] option was available.

To try to fix the problem , I selected [Project][Wbs][Renumber][Entire
Project], to renumber the entire project, hoping that would bring back the
[Selected Tasks] option, but it didn't.

I can't find anything in the knowledge base about this. Has anyone seen
this behavior before, and if so, do you know what caused it?

Hello J.

If you select only one row, the [WBS Renumber] dialog box presents only the
[Entire Project] option.
Have you tried to select several rows ?

Of course...As I said, I've renumbered selected tasks on a regular basis.
Now, the [Selected Tasks] option is greyed out. I know that I'm not the
only person that this has happened to.

1.Renumber WBS for Selected Tasks is broken for one file (it used to work)

I have a schedule where I've frequently renumbered the WBS values for parts
of the schedule, using the [Project][Wbs][Renumber][Select Tasks] command.

All of a sudden, when I select several tasks (not just one!), and click the
[WBS Renumber] dialog box, the [Selected Tasks] option is greyed out (the
[Entire Project] option is still selectable).

Nothing else has changed...the WBS settings and Code Definition are still
the same as when the [Selected Tasks] option was available. When MSP
renumbers the WBS for "Selected Tasks", it uses the first selected item as a
starting reference, and there's a valid WBS value in that task. The numbers
it would normally create with this command, are not already in the Project
file, so uniqueness isn't a problem.

To try to fix the problem , I selected [Project][Wbs][Renumber][Entire
Project], to renumber the entire project, hoping that would bring back the
[Selected Tasks] option, but it didn't.

I can't find anything in the knowledge base about this. I've had several
users complain of the same problem, but not until they have renumbered
selected tasks, a lot of times.

Has anyone seen this behavior before, and if so, do you know how we can get
the Selected Tasks WBS Renumbering to work again?

2.Renumbering WBS using the Project/WBS pull down window

I have MS Project 2003 Standard: I wish to renumber an existing WBS. The Help
instructions say: Select Project, then WBS, then Renumber, then Entire
project. When I select Project, then WBS,the window is locked in the "Define
Code" mode. The Renumber option is muted and cannot be selected. Icannot
proceed.
What am I doing wrong?
How can I renumber an existing WBS?

3.WBS Renumber greyed out

Hi,

I'd like to renumber my WBS elements. When I click Projects, WBS the
renumber menu is in grey and can not be used. This happens even a new
project with only two tasks. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

5.How to renumber W.B.S. codes

I have MS Project 2003 Professional. There is an option on the Project menu
for 'W.B.S.' 'Renumber', but the 'Renumber' function is not highlighted and
won't let me select it. According to online help you should be able to
select your tasks by name (or entire project) and renumber the W.B.S. codes
but I cannot get it to work. How can you do this?
