  • 1. Local Resources
I am working on a project that is a collaboration between a vendor and about 30 resources in my organization. We would like to use one project to track both the vendors tasks and my tasks. All of our resources are Enterprise resources and the vendors resources are local. We would like to save and publish the project on our Project Server 2003 but would like to have the vendor's resources remain local to the project and we would like to not have User Accounts created. When I turn of the option for Project Manager to "Create Accounts from Microsoft Office Project", the project spooler gives the error: "the manager cannot create the resource account (0x8C040017)" each time I attempt to publish it. The question is, can I publish a project with both local and enterprise resources, have the local resources remain local and not have user accounts created for each of them automatically? Thank you...Ed
  • 2. Projects in Project View
In an effort to clean up a couple of projects that were exhibiting some of the symptoms discussed here in this forum, we: - switched off managed time periods (and time sheet approval) - saved the project file to a hard drive as a .mpp - deleted the project off of our server - cleaned up the .mpp version - and then imported and republished the .mpp to the server It appears that all of the tasks and information is visible on Project web access with the exception of the Project center. The message received there is: "There is no information to display in this view Either the project manager has not published the project plan or there is no information in the project plan to display. " We have opened these projects, published all the information and the project plan, but still have not been able to view the project information in project center. Any ideas on what has happened or how to fix it? Using: MSProject Pro 2003 Project Server Thanks in advance!
  • 3. Project Task Notes - transferring between client and PWA
Hi All, Here's what I'm trying to do: I have a plan for maintenance project that has tasks with no end-date; resources will be asked to execute those tasks on an ad hoc basis. The amount of time it takes to complete each task is fixed. Using an example, I have Task A that I will bill 36 hours to my client for over the course of the year. I enter 36 hours as the work estimate, and each month the resources can therefore log 3 hours against that task. I would like to know how I can attach a note to the task that reminds whichever resource is executing the task that they can only log 3 hours. Here's my problem: If I attach a note to a task using the MS Project Pro client, that note does not appear in the PWA interface. Likewise, if I insert a note through PWA it does not appear when I open the plan in the Project Pro client. Thoughs and suggestions are appreciated, Richard
  • 4. Resource Costs and Discounts
I'm quite certain that I know the answer to this, but... Context: I have a client for whom all resource prices (costs in Project) are discounted 5%. Question: Is it possible to apply a broad discount across each of the applicable projects, or do I need to add an additional rate for each resource? Gratitude: Thanks in advance. Richard

Can't Renumber WBS for "Selected Tasks"

Postby J Baird » Sat, 06 Mar 2004 04:22:47 GMT

I have a schedule, where I've renumbered the WBS numbers for selected tasks,
on a regular basis. ([Project][Wbs][Renumber][Select Tasks])

All of a sudden, in the [WBS Renumber] dialog box, the [Selected Tasks]
option is greyed out (the [Entire Project] option is still selectable).
Nothing else has changed...the WBS settings and Code Definition are still
the same as when the [Selected Tasks] option was available.

To try to fix the problem , I selected [Project][Wbs][Renumber][Entire
Project], to renumber the entire project, hoping that would bring back the
[Selected Tasks] option, but it didn't.

I can't find anything in the knowledge base about this. Has anyone seen
this behavior before, and if so, do you know what caused it?

Hello J.

If you select only one row, the [WBS Renumber] dialog box presents only the
[Entire Project] option.
Have you tried to select several rows ?

Of course...As I said, I've renumbered selected tasks on a regular basis.
Now, the [Selected Tasks] option is greyed out. I know that I'm not the
only person that this has happened to.

1.Renumber WBS for Selected Tasks is broken for one file (it used to work)

I have a schedule where I've frequently renumbered the WBS values for parts
of the schedule, using the [Project][Wbs][Renumber][Select Tasks] command.

All of a sudden, when I select several tasks (not just one!), and click the
[WBS Renumber] dialog box, the [Selected Tasks] option is greyed out (the
[Entire Project] option is still selectable).

Nothing else has changed...the WBS settings and Code Definition are still
the same as when the [Selected Tasks] option was available. When MSP
renumbers the WBS for "Selected Tasks", it uses the first selected item as a
starting reference, and there's a valid WBS value in that task. The numbers
it would normally create with this command, are not already in the Project
file, so uniqueness isn't a problem.

To try to fix the problem , I selected [Project][Wbs][Renumber][Entire
Project], to renumber the entire project, hoping that would bring back the
[Selected Tasks] option, but it didn't.

I can't find anything in the knowledge base about this. I've had several
users complain of the same problem, but not until they have renumbered
selected tasks, a lot of times.

Has anyone seen this behavior before, and if so, do you know how we can get
the Selected Tasks WBS Renumbering to work again?

2.Renumbering WBS using the Project/WBS pull down window

I have MS Project 2003 Standard: I wish to renumber an existing WBS. The Help
instructions say: Select Project, then WBS, then Renumber, then Entire
project. When I select Project, then WBS,the window is locked in the "Define
Code" mode. The Renumber option is muted and cannot be selected. Icannot
proceed.
What am I doing wrong?
How can I renumber an existing WBS?

3.WBS Renumber greyed out

Hi,

I'd like to renumber my WBS elements. When I click Projects, WBS the
renumber menu is in grey and can not be used. This happens even a new
project with only two tasks. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

  Darrell

5.How to renumber W.B.S. codes

I have MS Project 2003 Professional. There is an option on the Project menu
for 'W.B.S.' 'Renumber', but the 'Renumber' function is not highlighted and
won't let me select it. According to online help you should be able to
select your tasks by name (or entire project) and renumber the W.B.S. codes
but I cannot get it to work. How can you do this?
