  • 1. Resources lookup question
Hi, I have the following RBS implemented in the Global Enterprise: Level1: CIO Level2: VP IT Ops Level3: IT Managers Level4: IT Resource Level2: VP Development Level3: Dev Resources Currently I am conducting the pilot managing projects for the IT ops department. My question goes: I need to allow IT Managers to see the resources they manage (no problem on this one) and I need IT resources to see their peers within the same IT Manager area; I have been able to see some of the resources but not all of them. Both IT Managers and IT Resources are defined within the Project Managers, Team Members and Team Leaders groups. Project Managers group has access to the My Projects Category as well as to another Category and I have created for each IT Manager in which I have granted permission to the following: * Users or groups in this category can view all projects they manage. * Users or groups in this category can view all projects they are assigned to. * Users or groups in this category can view all projects managed by resources that they manage. * Users or groups in this category can view all projects assigned to resources that they manage. Can someone let me know why the IT Resources cannot see each other? Am I asking to much from the RBS functionality? Thanks Mauricio
  • 2. Total Remaining Work and Total Work are not good when data is filt
In the Resource Usage view, when data is filtered, the Total Actual Work calculated for each resource is good, but totals for Remaining Work and Work fields are not good because those totals include data that is not shown (resulting of the applied filter). Is there a way to specify the calculation mode for those fields (to include or not to include hidden elements). Thanks, Claire
  • 3. Font changes on publish
Here is my situation. I have changed the font color and style on tasks in my project schedule. When I publish the schedule to Project Server, the font reverts back to the default. How do I prevent this? Thanks Chas
  • 4. Project Reader
Microsoft makes free readers for products like Visio. Does anyone know if there is a like reader for Microsoft Project?
  • 5. Project Details not populated in PWA??? Help (PLEASE)!!!
Unfortunately, I have just discovered (during a MAJOR project review this morning) that PWA is not functioning correctly. It appears that "all of a sudden", the function/module that populates to project detail views is not functioning properly. One project was brought to my attention late Tuesday afternoon, so I spent the better part of Wednesday checking the project schedule out and republishing to see if the project detail was being updated properly. After several attempts, I then completed deleted the project from the server (sharepoint site et al), then republished the project, as a new project to the server. That's when I noticed that even though the project was saved correctly on the server and the Project Center (project top-level) data was correct, but the project detail was unavailable for the newly published project. In addition, I have verified and of the 8 projects reviewed this morning, all 8 of them have been updated on the server since Monday, April 11th, where neither project reflected the updates to the project's detail data in PWA. The results of the changes missing from the project details in the updated project schedules, and the missing data from the newly published project tells me that the function that populates the views is not functioning correctly. Any thoughts? Advise? Suggestions? Please advise - ASAP.

Can't Renumber WBS for "Selected Tasks"

Postby J Baird » Sat, 06 Mar 2004 04:22:47 GMT

I have a schedule, where I've renumbered the WBS numbers for selected tasks,
on a regular basis. ([Project][Wbs][Renumber][Select Tasks])

All of a sudden, in the [WBS Renumber] dialog box, the [Selected Tasks]
option is greyed out (the [Entire Project] option is still selectable).
Nothing else has changed...the WBS settings and Code Definition are still
the same as when the [Selected Tasks] option was available.

To try to fix the problem , I selected [Project][Wbs][Renumber][Entire
Project], to renumber the entire project, hoping that would bring back the
[Selected Tasks] option, but it didn't.

I can't find anything in the knowledge base about this. Has anyone seen
this behavior before, and if so, do you know what caused it?

Hello J.

If you select only one row, the [WBS Renumber] dialog box presents only the
[Entire Project] option.
Have you tried to select several rows ?

Of course...As I said, I've renumbered selected tasks on a regular basis.
Now, the [Selected Tasks] option is greyed out. I know that I'm not the
only person that this has happened to.

1.Renumber WBS for Selected Tasks is broken for one file (it used to work)

I have a schedule where I've frequently renumbered the WBS values for parts
of the schedule, using the [Project][Wbs][Renumber][Select Tasks] command.

All of a sudden, when I select several tasks (not just one!), and click the
[WBS Renumber] dialog box, the [Selected Tasks] option is greyed out (the
[Entire Project] option is still selectable).

Nothing else has changed...the WBS settings and Code Definition are still
the same as when the [Selected Tasks] option was available. When MSP
renumbers the WBS for "Selected Tasks", it uses the first selected item as a
starting reference, and there's a valid WBS value in that task. The numbers
it would normally create with this command, are not already in the Project
file, so uniqueness isn't a problem.

To try to fix the problem , I selected [Project][Wbs][Renumber][Entire
Project], to renumber the entire project, hoping that would bring back the
[Selected Tasks] option, but it didn't.

I can't find anything in the knowledge base about this. I've had several
users complain of the same problem, but not until they have renumbered
selected tasks, a lot of times.

Has anyone seen this behavior before, and if so, do you know how we can get
the Selected Tasks WBS Renumbering to work again?

2.Renumbering WBS using the Project/WBS pull down window

I have MS Project 2003 Standard: I wish to renumber an existing WBS. The Help
instructions say: Select Project, then WBS, then Renumber, then Entire
project. When I select Project, then WBS,the window is locked in the "Define
Code" mode. The Renumber option is muted and cannot be selected. Icannot
proceed.
What am I doing wrong?
How can I renumber an existing WBS?

3.WBS Renumber greyed out

Hi,

I'd like to renumber my WBS elements. When I click Projects, WBS the
renumber menu is in grey and can not be used. This happens even a new
project with only two tasks. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

5.How to renumber W.B.S. codes

I have MS Project 2003 Professional. There is an option on the Project menu
for 'W.B.S.' 'Renumber', but the 'Renumber' function is not highlighted and
won't let me select it. According to online help you should be able to
select your tasks by name (or entire project) and renumber the W.B.S. codes
but I cannot get it to work. How can you do this?
