Is there any information out there on using Microsoft Project Server? All the information I see on the Microsoft site is technical and involves setting up MSPS. We have already done that but need to have information for our users on how to use it. We post projects but no one can see tasks and no one can open them in MSPS though they show up. Any suggestions? • 3. cannot connect.
I have installed MSproject Server 2003 and I can connect to it using Project Pro 2002. I am in our administrator group. When I attempt to connect using an account not in the admin group i receive the following error: There was a problem with the resource. Microsoft Project Server was unable to process the specified enterprise resource. After I hit ok i receive the box: Cannot connect. Microsoft project was uable to establish connection with the selected Project Server. This could be caused by network connectivity, invalid user name or password, lack of a enterprise global template, problems with the Project server or database or your Server may not have enterprise features enabled. Any help would be great. Thanks.

The OLAP cube was last built on 9/16. Now it won't rebuild manually or periodically. When I hit the manual button I get a dialog box that sounds like it is working. I hit OK. But when I logout and come back in the message still still says it was last built on 9/16 and I can see the data isn't updated. Where do I start looking for clues to solve this problem?
  • 5. Project Manager Can't Assign Enterprise Resources
Does anyone know what the security permission settings are for a Project Manager to be able to assign resources from the build team from enterprises? I have tried every permission setting possible, but I can't seem to get the project managers to be able to view the enterprise resources in the build team from enterprise wizard. There are no filters applied, just a blank list comes up........any help would greatly be appreciated. Thanks

Can't Renumber WBS for "Selected Tasks"

Postby J Baird » Sat, 06 Mar 2004 04:22:47 GMT

I have a schedule, where I've renumbered the WBS numbers for selected tasks,
on a regular basis. ([Project][Wbs][Renumber][Select Tasks])

All of a sudden, in the [WBS Renumber] dialog box, the [Selected Tasks]
option is greyed out (the [Entire Project] option is still selectable).
Nothing else has changed...the WBS settings and Code Definition are still
the same as when the [Selected Tasks] option was available.

To try to fix the problem , I selected [Project][Wbs][Renumber][Entire
Project], to renumber the entire project, hoping that would bring back the
[Selected Tasks] option, but it didn't.

I can't find anything in the knowledge base about this. Has anyone seen
this behavior before, and if so, do you know what caused it?

Hello J.

If you select only one row, the [WBS Renumber] dialog box presents only the
[Entire Project] option.
Have you tried to select several rows ?

Of course...As I said, I've renumbered selected tasks on a regular basis.
Now, the [Selected Tasks] option is greyed out. I know that I'm not the
only person that this has happened to.

1.Renumber WBS for Selected Tasks is broken for one file (it used to work)

I have a schedule where I've frequently renumbered the WBS values for parts
of the schedule, using the [Project][Wbs][Renumber][Select Tasks] command.

All of a sudden, when I select several tasks (not just one!), and click the
[WBS Renumber] dialog box, the [Selected Tasks] option is greyed out (the
[Entire Project] option is still selectable).

Nothing else has changed...the WBS settings and Code Definition are still
the same as when the [Selected Tasks] option was available. When MSP
renumbers the WBS for "Selected Tasks", it uses the first selected item as a
starting reference, and there's a valid WBS value in that task. The numbers
it would normally create with this command, are not already in the Project
file, so uniqueness isn't a problem.

To try to fix the problem , I selected [Project][Wbs][Renumber][Entire
Project], to renumber the entire project, hoping that would bring back the
[Selected Tasks] option, but it didn't.

I can't find anything in the knowledge base about this. I've had several
users complain of the same problem, but not until they have renumbered
selected tasks, a lot of times.

Has anyone seen this behavior before, and if so, do you know how we can get
the Selected Tasks WBS Renumbering to work again?

2.Renumbering WBS using the Project/WBS pull down window

I have MS Project 2003 Standard: I wish to renumber an existing WBS. The Help
instructions say: Select Project, then WBS, then Renumber, then Entire
project. When I select Project, then WBS,the window is locked in the "Define
Code" mode. The Renumber option is muted and cannot be selected. Icannot
proceed.
What am I doing wrong?
How can I renumber an existing WBS?

3.WBS Renumber greyed out

Hi,

I'd like to renumber my WBS elements. When I click Projects, WBS the
renumber menu is in grey and can not be used. This happens even a new
project with only two tasks. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

5.How to renumber W.B.S. codes

I have MS Project 2003 Professional. There is an option on the Project menu
for 'W.B.S.' 'Renumber', but the 'Renumber' function is not highlighted and
won't let me select it. According to online help you should be able to
select your tasks by name (or entire project) and renumber the W.B.S. codes
but I cannot get it to work. How can you do this?
