I have custom title blocks that appear on every page of a large visio document. Is there anyway format the background, so you can type directly into the background shapes on all of the pages? • 5. How do you insert overstrike characters/symbols to label shapes?
I've got Visio Professional 2003 and I'm building a simple flowchart. I want to label a shape with a letter, say, B with a ^ (caret) symbol over the top of the B, and be able to change the B to a C, etc. I found an A with the ^ over it in the Insert, Symbols pop-up keyboard, and it was easy enough to insert into the shape, but how do I change the A to a B? I know you can do this in Word by going through Insert, Field, Eq, Codes, Overstrike, but visio doesn't seem to have the same capability. I tried a creating it in Word, then copying it to Visio, but that didn't work.

Vision Org Chart synchronised to Excel

Postby Cathy » Fri, 30 Nov 2007 17:10:15 GMT

I have also been trying to find a way to link an ORG chart to Excel. i.e.
When I import data into an Org chart from an excel Spreadsheet. I then want
to link the Org chart to the spreadsheet so that any changes made in the Org
chart is automatically updated in the spreadsheet.

Regards
C

Thank you for the response. I was looking under Add-ons -> Visio Extras ->
Link to Database and found Excel in here as an option. But I can not seem to
figure out how to get it to do this.

If it is only a one way street, can I link it so that any changes made in
the Excel Sheet is immediately reflected in the Diagram when it is next
opened?

I haven't played with the wizard in awhile but some of the issues that used
to be out there include:

The orgchart wizard (as a performance thing) does a complete redraw whenever
the data is loaded, consequently if you have modifed anything the refresh
overwrites what you have customized.

The (re)creation based on excel changes would require that somebody write
the code for excel to a.) recognize the change and b.) start visio and then
tell it to recreate the drawing. That becomes and excel coding project.

1.Org charts - displaying different fields on synchronised pages

I know it sounds a little contradictory but....
I've created some linked (synchronised) pages for the org structure in my
branch of of our organisation.
On the top level (ie page 1) I'm just looking to display each Director's
name and the name of their team
On the synchronised pages (ie pages 2-5) for each of those teams I want to
show team member's names, their roles and their phone numbers (maybe a
picture).

However, when I change the display field options under the Org Structure
menu it makes the changes globally.

Is there any way to show the different fields on different pages?
thanks

4.Order changed after import data from excel to prepare org.chart

I found that a list of excel data after importing to Visio for producing org, chart. The order is messed. I need to spent much time to reorder it ? Why does this happened ? As I need to import several hundred of data, it spent me much much time. Any one can help me?

5.refreshing data from excel in org chart

Once I've used the org chart wizard to construct an org chart, can I update
the chart if the excel sheet is changed? At the moment it looks to me as
though I have to go through the wizard again.

On a similar topic, what is the logic used when laying out the subordinate
boxes? On my test excel sheet I named staff 'person 1', 'person 2' etc up to
6 and they were layed out in the order 5 3 1 6 2 4. That's pretty annoying
because it means I can't place my boxes in a chosen order e.g. alpabetically
or by seniority etc. Is there a way around this?
