Trying to import an Excel table into the Gantt Chart in Visio. The Finish date works fine, but every time I try to map the Start date, I get an "Invalid Column Format" error. Tried changing the format of the Start date field, and it doesn't change anything. Excel 2007 Visio 2007 SP2 and 2010 Beta, both with the same issue. Any suggestions?

I have a basic flowchart with headings (1.1, 1.2, 2.0, etc...). I would like
to export the headings in the flowchart shapes to Excel and have it organized
by precedence of the flowchart shape. That way I can have the flow chart
heading and then see in Excel which shapes precede it.

I'm wondering if this functionality exists, similar to that when you export
the information from an Organizational Chart (in Visio).

Please advise - thank you very much for your help - Wil.

Is there a feature in Visio when you want to insert a symbol into and
existing flowchart? By using this feature all of the symbols following the

4.Single long flowchart vs multiple flowcharts for a multiprocess workflow

I am drawing a cross-functionality flowchart, to document the process
between 2 disjointed software systems. The first system can initiate
functionality in the second, and the second system ques changes which
need to be retrieved and acted upon with in the first system. Right
now a Windows Service looks like the best way for me to handle this;
the service would listen for events in the second system and initiate
the appropriate actions in the first system.

So, I started drawing a cross-functional flowchart to a) confirm /
nail down the business process with our managers, b) find all the
touch points with their api, and c) communicate this to the second
system developers, who insist we don need a piece of functionality
(maybe their right, hopefully this will communicate the flaws in one
of our processes).

The question comes up once the Windows Service istenerapp got
involved, it seemed logical to break each listener process into a
separate diagram. However, I feel that passing the business users a
stack of 10 diagrams instead of one might confuse them.

Has anybody thought about this before? Is there a general rule for
doing this? Am I over thinking this?

Thanks in advance for your comments.

5.Extract Text from Visio

I need to extract text by using Visio IFilter.

Actually, I am using Visio IFilter and it works when I manually install
Visio IFilter component before/after install my application.

But I don't need my users to install application 2 times, one for my
application, another is visio ifilter.

I need to install only my application for one times and register some dll
which visio used.

How can I do?

Or any recommended library to extract text from Visio?
