Some of my Visio 2003 drawings display in Visio Viewer (the latest download) with black fill obscuring the text captions. Even a text box with no fill pattern displays with the black fill. The black fill fits pretty closely around the caption, it does not affect the rest of the shape that the caption applies to. So it displays as if the caption is in its own black box surrounded by the intended fill for the shape. The problem occurs also if the graphics are converted to Visio 2002. It did not occur in a test case of converting the graphic to Visio 5, but using Visio 5 creates other problems for the application so I can't take that as a workaround. The graphics use styles for text, line, and fill, so I wondered if Viewer could choke on a style, but in a test, removing styles did not improve things. So I'm looking for tips about what to change in the graphics that will make them enough like Visio 5 for the Viewer to work. Thanks, Sallie

connecting shapes; segment problems

Postby THVrZSBXaWxsaWFtcw » Sat, 20 Nov 2004 22:35:11 GMT

I opened this file and have tried to modify connections between shapes. The
segments connecting the shapes have on both ends green boxes. When I move
this segment near a connection point on a shape, it does not turn red.......
WHY? This is driving me nuts !

Thanks for your help.

1.Connecting line segments into one object

I am trying to make a template to paint some flames on a wall. I used Visio
to create an outline of flames by tracing an existing bitmap using the
freeform tool. Then I copied the flames and pasted it into the same image so
it will be wide enough to span the whole wall. Then I drew lines from the
ends of the flames; down, across, and up; to represent to bottom of the wall.
My plan was to draw a box to represent the entire wall and overlay the flames
on top. Than way I can mess around with different color schemes. The problem
I have is the flame is not a closed shape, so it won't fill in. The spot
where the original flame connects with the copied flame is not connected.
Each flame has it's own endpoint that I can move indendentaly of each other.
How do I connect these pieces together so I can fill in the flames?

2.Line segments connected by circles

Is there a way to create a drawing using half dozen or so line segments
with large circles as connection points?

I tried using the format/line popup on the line tool, but all I could
get it to do is put a circle at the beginning of the 1st segment and at
the end of the final segment.

4.Closing multiple-segment shapes

Since my early days of using Visio, I've always had a devil of a time
closing multiple segment shapes. Theoretically, you can close a shape
by dragging the starting point over the ending point, but I find it
very difficult to do, particularly with more complex shapes... it
seems that the points made, but I can't apply a fill. Is there some
sort of trick to this?
