  • 1. Visio 2000 and Visio 2003 compatibility of third party downloads
I want to use the a Crime Scene Template 3rd Party download designed for Vision 2000. I have Visio 2003. I noticed during the installation process that the download was going to'install over' my version of Visio. I stopped the installation. Is it likely that the version 2000 download will adversely affect my Visio 2003?
  • 2. Custom Line End Hellp
Hi there, I am trying to create a custom line end that have a 45 degree line at the end of whatever line drawn. After searching the web it seems that the only resources are by John in his blog and greenonions.com. I have created a master shape on the document stencil, at the line end folder and dragged 2 guides to intersect at the center. Then I draw a line that extends from the left to the middle of the page, at the lower left quadrant. The line ends that this shape produces is too small, no matter how large I make the page to be. How can I enlarge the line end so that even at very small and small, I will see a large 45 degree line at the ends of my line? How can I create a large shape (transparent) just like the built in line end no 38? Please help. Thanks in advance.
  • 3. Importing Connections From Excel
Hi, I am new to Visio and am attempting to use it to create a block diagram of connections. That is, I have some boxes identified with certain connectors on them, and am trying to use Visio to diagram the connections to the other boxes/connectors. Currently, I have an Excel spreadsheet in the following format: From Unit | From Conn1 | From Conn2 | To Unit | To Conn1 | To Conn2 where each "|" denotes a column separation. There is always a From/To Unit and From/To Conn1, but not always a From/To Conn2 entry. I'm sure there must be a way to import this information and have Visio generate a diagram showing the connections, however the Help file in my version of Visio seems to have been installed improperly, so I can't access it. Is there a way to do what I'm trying to do? If yes, can someone please describe the step-by-step procedure for doing so or point me to a website that has the step-by-step procedure? I do not need the connections to be "pretty." Simple squares and rectangles with lines in between them will work just fine. I am using Visio 2000 SR1 and Excel 2002 SP3. Thanks in advance!
  • 4. How do I resize multiple same format shapes in Visio?
Does anyone know how I can select a same format shapes, to resize them all to the same size, at once? For example, if I have 10 question boxes on the same sheet, and I want to select them all, then make them the same size. Thanks!
  • 5. Oops Now What
I am on Visio 2003 while the rest of my office is on either Version 4 or 2000. I was helping someone with a Version 4 file and made changes to the srawing for them. Then I quickly without paying attention saved it but noticed out of the corner of my eye (too late) that I had saved it as my version. Now they can not open it to continue work in it. Please Please tell me I can fix this for them. Thanks, Dana

1."Balloons" in Visio possible?

This is what I am trying to do: I have a logical diagram of software
application. However, there is not enough space inside the shapes to fit
complete description. Is there a way to create something like a popup or
balloon so that when viewer holds the mouse over this shape this balloon
appears with more comments?

2.Showing office custom balloon assistant

Hi everyone,

I am trying to add a non-intrusive way of displaying information to the
Visio 2003 user by trying to use Office balloons. I looked for various
examples online and they all use the Assistant object.

However, Visio does not seem to be able to access this object. My guess is
that I have to enable or add some component somewhere. Does anyone know how
I can enable this? Also, is it possible to enable this programatically at
run-time?

Cheers and thanks!

3.Word files balloon when Visios repeatedly pasted in

I am experiencing a problem with Visio diagrams embedded into Word documents.
I make changes to the diagrams over time, then paste them in to the Word
docs using the clipboard. I prefer this to double-clicking on the Visio
diagram in the Word doc because you don't get the full Visio interface that
way.

Anyway, when I do this, Word seems to keep all of the old Visio diagrams in
the file and not free up the space when they are deleted. The result is that
the Word files balloon in size until they are too large to email or otherwise
handle. For example, I now have a Visio file of size 1.3MB, and my Word doc
is 1.4MB with the Visios all converted to graphics (CTL-SHIFT-F9). But the
Word file with the Visios left intact is over 10MB!

Is there any way to solve this problem, so that the old Visio objects are
not kept around and the file size remains manageable?

Thanks!!

- bill.

5.Word Viewer - viewing revised document without revision balloons?

I have a revised Word document that I set up to show revisions. When I edit
it, Word shows revisions without showing "balloons" for each word deleted or
replaced. I can view the document using Word viewer. I don't want to see the
"balloons" showing the words I deleted or replaced, but Word Viewer shows the
"balloons" for each word I deleted or replaced. I can't figure out how to
turn this off in Word Viewer. I know I could delete the revisions from the
document, but for my purposes I need to be able to see the revisions.
